TURLOCK, Calif. – Two-time All-American thrower
Luisa Musika added another milestone to her brilliant career on Friday, posting a school-record toss of 45 feet, 9 ¼ inches in the shot put to lead a trio of San Francisco State track and field competitors at the Cal State Stanislaus Twilight Qualifier in the final outdoor meet of the 2011 regular season.
With her effort, Musika eclipsed a 24-year old Gator standard of 45-09 set by Rochelle Self in 1987 and improved upon her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark by five-and-one-half inches. The SF State junior, who garnered three all-conference awards at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships last week, now ranks 22nd nationally in the event.
Elsewhere, fellow classmate
Meagen Moiola emerged victorious in the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet, 5 inches, while senior
Vanesa Zuzuarregui closed out her Gator career with a ninth-place finish of 5 minutes, 12.26 seconds in the 1,500 meters.
Select SF State student-athletes will now await word of possible at-large bids to the 2011 NCAA Division II Championships when invitations are announced on Tuesday, May 17. Head coach Terry Burke's squad has provisionally qualified seven competitors in nine events, including Musika (shot put, discus),
Carrie Thomas (100, 200, 4x100 relay, 4x400 relay),
Alicia Chambers (200, 400, 4x400 relay),

Keenya McDaniel (400 hurdles, 4x400 relay),
