SAN FRANCISCO – Powered by Meagan Wright's 11-kill, six-block performance, the San Francisco State women's volleyball team registered a 3-0 victory (25-17, 28-26, 25-16) over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match Friday inside The Swamp.

The Gators hit .310 as a team and racked up a season-best 10 total blocks to go along with seven service aces, raising their record to 18-6 overall and 13-4 in conference play, while the Toros slip to 9-14 on the season and 7-9 in the CCAA.

With the win, SF State, which received a No. 6 ranking in the NCAA Division II West Regional poll on Wednesday, remains alone in third place in the conference race, a half-game behind UC San Diego and a game-and-a-half in back of Cal State San Bernardino with five dates left in the regular season.

The Gators also received a solid effort from Jazmine Williams, who hit .667 after launching eight kills on an economical 12 attempts with no errors while adding three blocks.  In addition, Iris Tolenada notched her 15th double-double of the year with 30 assists and 16 digs, while Megan Johnson (.333) displayed her versatility with seven kills, four block assists and three aces.  Not to be outdone, Jessica Nicerio led all players with 17 digs, while Jaclyn Clark got into the block party as well with five total stops at the net.

As a team, SF State maintained a 43-36 advantage in kills, a 56-50 margin in digs and a 10-4 spread in total blocks.

The Gators flashed their efficiency in the opening set, posting a .379 attack percentage with 12 kills on 29 swings minus one error.  The Purple and Gold raced to a 9-4 lead after a block by Wright and Clark, but CSUDH remained in contention, trimming the deficit to one on four occasions, including a 15-14 span following a Corissa Santos kill.  However, the Toros promptly committed a service error, sapping their momentum as SF State closed with a 10-3 rush, featuring three Wright put-aways and another two by Clark.

The second stanza proved to be the tightest of the match as the Gators witnessed a late 23-19 lead quickly morph into a 24-23 deficit following five straight CSUDH points.  However, the Purple and Gold demonstrated its resiliency once again, surviving two additional set points as Johnson blasted three kills down the stretch to help the host school escape.

Deflated, the Toros were limited to just seven kills in the third frame as SF State built a comfortable 20-9 cushion it would not surrender.  Katie Judd provided a spark off the bench with five put-aways during set, while Johnson scored two aces to help the Gators complete their 10th sweep of the year.

The Toros, on the other hand, were led by Whitney Lee, who finished with 11 kills, while Dana Brown added five non-returnables of her own to go along with 24 assists and four blocks in the defeat.

SF State will close off the home portion of its 2012 schedule tomorrow when it plays host to Cal State L.A., starting at 7 p.m.  The Golden Eagles (10-13, 8-8 CCAA) dropped a three-set decision at Sonoma State on Friday.  Prior to Saturday's clash, the Gators will recognize both team's senior classes in a special ceremony, including their own Sammie Battles, Kelsie Brennan, Megan Johnson and Iris Tolenada.
