SEATTLE – San Francisco State's
Luisa Musika eclipsed her own indoor school record in the shot put on Saturday to lead the Gator track and field team at the Flotrack Husky Classic on the University of Washington campus.
Musika improved upon her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark with a toss of 47 feet, 2.25 inches to finish in a tie for fifth place in a field featuring several Division I competitors. With her performance, the SF State senior surpassed her own school standard of 45-09 set earlier this season at the Cherry and Silver Invitational on Jan. 21.
Similarly,
Tiana Wills attained another provisional qualifying mark in the high jump with a clearance of 5-07.75, bettering her height of 5-06 recorded at the New Mexico Classic on Feb. 3. Wills tied for third in the event, while teammate
Meagen Moiola finished in a five-way logjam for eighth after clearing 5-05.75.
Elsewhere, the Gator 4x400 relay team of
Carrie Thomas,
Maya Cabiness,
Brionne Baucham and
Keenya McDaniel won its heat and placed fifth overall with a time of 3 minutes, 49.26 seconds. The SF State quartet, which also enhanced its previous PQ time of 3:49.50 from the Cherry and Silver Invite, finished ahead of squads from Division I Colorado, Stanford, Sacramento State and Oregon, along with fellow California Collegiate Athletic Association members Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A.
The Gators will wrap up their weekend in the Pacific Northwest on Sunday when select distance runners compete in the UW Husky Open at Dempsey Indoor Stadium.
