MANKATO, Minn. – San Francisco State's
Keenya McDaniel finished third in the triple jump on Saturday to garner All-America accolades at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships inside Myers Fieldhouse on the campus of Minnesota State University.
McDaniel recorded a leap of 40 feet, 2 inches to break own school-record mark of 39-05.75 set at the New Mexico Classic on Feb. 4. With her performance, the Gator sophomore netted six points for SF State, which finished in a four-way tie for 22
nd place in the team standings with Bentley, Minnesota State-Moorhead and Angelo State.
“Keenya exhibited incredible poise to make the finals on her last jump of the first round,” said SF State head coach Terry Burke. “To finish third in her second-ever triple jump competition is a remarkable achievement. She has an incredible future not only in the triple jump, but in a wide range of events.”
In the high jump,
Meagen Moiola barely missed out on All-America honors after placing ninth in the event with a clearance of 5 feet, 6 ½ inches. The Gator senior equaled the mark of the Lewis University's Samantha Linck; however, Linck grabbed the eighth spot after completing the opening height of 5-04.25 in just one attempt, compared to three tries for Moiola.
Luisa Musika, SF State's third indoor national qualifier, entered Saturday's competition nursing a sore ankle and placed 12
th in the shot put with a toss of 42-06.75.
Grand Valley State captured the women's team championship with 94 points, followed by Adams State (51 pts.), Lincoln (43 pts.) and Central Missouri (42 pts.), while Hillsdale (33 pts.) edged Grand Canyon (32 pts.) for the fifth slot.
The Gators resume their outdoor schedule on Saturday, March 17, when they hit the road to compete in the Hornet Invitational hosted by Sacramento State.
