SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco State's
Kaylie Belk recorded a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters on Friday to lead select Gator track and field competitors at the fifth annual SF State Distance Carnival at Cox Stadium.
Belk crossed the finish line with a career-best time of 2 minutes 14.41, which ranks fourth on the school's all-time outdoor performance list. The Gator sophomore also captured the second heat and placed 14th overall in her just her second collegiate 1,500-meter event after clocking in at 4:49.11.
In addition, Zuleima Jimenez ran the second-fastest 10,000-meter race in SF State history, placing seventh overall with a time of 36:50.12, while fellow teammate
Alicia Trujillo climbed into fourth place on the school's all-time charts in the event after posting a result of 38:33.50.
Not to be outdone,
Lindsay Enright's effort in the 5,000 catapulted her into fifth place in Gator history after she logged a personal-best performance of 17:57.48.
Other highlights for the Purple and Gold included a collegiate-fast time of 4:55.50 in the 1,500 by
Monique Diaz, while
Kelly DiMeo just missed on a top-10 finish in the 2-mile run after placing 11th at 11:51.93.
In the 100 meters,
Hilary King placed third in her heat and fifth overall with a result of 13.09, followed closely by
Kayleigh Hendrix (6th - 13.13) and
Brittany Johnson (7th - 13.15).
Elsewhere, the Cox Stadium gathering witnessed a new American Masters record in the 55-59 age group of the 5,000 meters as unattached Brian Pilcher logged a time of 16:05.12, shattering the previous standard of 16:14.55 set by Rick Becker in July 2010.
SF State will close out the weekend on Saturday when the balance of the squad continues to compete at the Stanford Invitational.
