Gators Use Total Team Effort To Key Four-Set Win over CSUDH

Jaclyn Clark Hit For a Season High .429 Hitting Percentage This Evening in the Gators' Four-Set Win

SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators used a total team effort to key their four-set win (25-19, 25-12, 20-25, 25-17) win over the visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros this evening at The Swamp. With the win, the Gators sweep the season series from the Toros.

"It was a great win as many people contributed to this victory over the Toros," said SF State head coach Jill Muhe. "I am very happy on how we played as a team and worked well together tonight."

Leading the way for the Gators in their team win were Jaclyn Clark and Jacquie Brice as they both had double-double performances. Clark hit for a match high .429 hitting percentage as she had 16 kills in 28 attempts to go along with her 14 digs. Brice added 36 assists and 12 digs. Jazmine Williams added four blocks and Jessica Nicerio chipped in 15 digs.

The Toros (8-14, 1-13 CCAA) were led by Dana Brown's 15 assists and 10 digs with Tarryn Luafalemana adding 5 total blocks.

SF State was down 8-5 in the first set, but came back and tied the set at 15-15 on a kill by Meagan Wright. The Gators increased their lead to 18-15 on a Clark kill and never looked back in the set as they won the first set 25-19.

Set two was tied at 7-7, when the Gators scored 13 consecutive points with Wright serving keyed by four kills by Clark and three by Williams to take a 20-7 lead. A kill by Kayce Skocko gave the Gators the set 25-12 as they took a 2-0 set lead heading into the 10-minute intermission.

Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 17-12 lead after the third set being tied 11-11. The Toros increased that lead to 19-13 on a kill by Whitney Lee. The Gators closed the gap to 23-20 on a kill by Clark, but the Toros finished out the set 25-20 to cut the Gators' match lead to 2-1.

In that proved to be the final set, the Gators took a 6-1 lead in the fourth set on a kill by Kelly Ostello.

The Toros cut the deficit to 11-8 on a kill by Alijah Gunsaulus, which was the closest the visitors would get as the Gators took the final set 25-15 to take the match 3-1.

The Gators will continue their brief three-match home stand with a 7pm starting match tomorrow evening at The Swamp hosting Cal State L.A. The Golden Eagles lost in four sets at #14 Sonoma State this evening. The Gators defeated Cal State L.A. earlier this season in five sets (26-24, 16-25, 23-25, 25-22, 27-25) in Los Angeles.
