ARCATA, Calif.--- The SF State Gators ended their four-match road trip with a three-set loss (21-25, 19-25, 22-25) to the Humboldt State Lumberjacks this evening at Lumberjack Arena in Arcata, Calif.
Jaclyn Clark led the visitors with a match high 13 kills with a .310 hitting percentage to go along with her two service aces and 8 digs.
Besides Clark's performance,
Meagan Wright added 7 kills and three blocks while
Jazmine Williams also had three blocks.
Katie Judd recorded a match high 9 kills and
Jacquie Brice added 25 assists.
Humboldt State (11-16, 6-14 CCAA) was led by the trio of Ashley Owen, Symone Hayden and Kaitlyn Dunaway. Owen had 13 kills with three blocks and Hayden added 12 kills and 8 digs. Dunaway had 10 kills and 8 digs for the Lumberjacks.
There were a total of 21 ties during the three sets this evening and 14 lead changes including 8 in the final set.
Humboldt State took an 11-6 lead in the first match capped by three consecutive kills by Dunaway (two) and Hayden before the Gators called a time out. After the timeout, the Gators cut the deficit to 14-13 as they took advantage of two hitting errors by their hosts.
A kill by Clark put the Gators within a point (17-16), but Humboldt State scored six of the next eight points to take a 23-18 lead. Ashley Owen's kill increased the Lumberjacks' lead to 24-18.
SF State would not go away as the visitors scored the next three points including one off a kill by
Katie Judd to cut the Lumberjack lead to 24-21. Another kill by Owen gave the hosts the set 25-21.
The second set was tied at 5-5, when Humboldt State scored 10 of the next 14 points to take a 15-9 lead.
SF State cut the Humboldt State lead to 15-11, but the Lumberjacks increased their lead to 21-14.
A kill by
Jacquie Brice cut the Gator deficit to 23-19, but the Lumberjacks finished off the set in thanks to back to back kills by Hayden and Owen to take a 2-0 set advantage in the match.
Back to back service aces by Clark gave SF State a 4-1 lead in the third set after the ten-minute intermission.
Humboldt State took an 11-7 lead in thanks to three kills by Dunaway.
SF State (12-16, 7-13 CCAA) scored 7 of the next 8 points as Clark had three kills to give the visitors a 14-12 lead.
The Lumberjacks called a timeout and scored the next three points to retake the lead, 15-14.
Back to back kills by Clark gave the lead back to the Gators, 16-15. The Gators held on to the lead, 20-19 on a service ace by
Krista Forte, but the hosts scored the next two points to take a 21-20 lead.
A kill by
Kelly Ostello tied the match at 21-21. Then a kill by Dunaway and a hitting error by SF State gave the Lumberjacks a 23-21 lead. After a Gator timeout, Clark recorded her 13
th kill to put the visitors within a point.
Humboldt State then received a kill by Hayden and then the hosts received the match point in thanks to a Gator error as they took the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
The Gators will round out their 2013 regular season next week with two home matches. SF State will host Cal State East Bay on Friday, November 22. Then the next evening, SF State will face Cal State Monterey Bay in their final regular season match of the season. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7pm at The Swamp. Prior to Saturday's match with the Otters, the Gators will recognize their only senior in
Katie Judd in a ceremony.
