#14 Sonoma State Defeats Gators, 3-0

SAN FRANCISCO – The visiting 14th ranked Sonoma State Seawolves swept this evening's CCAA match with the SF State Gators (25-17, 28-26, 25-20) to improve to 20-4 overall and 13-3 in the CCAA. Kelsey Hull lead the way for the visitors with 10 kills and 12 digs. Meagan Wright had 9 kills and a .375 hitting percentage to go along with her team high 6 total blocks for the Gators.

"Sonoma State is a very solid team which is playing very well right now," said SF State head coach Jill Muhe. "We have two matches this weekend and we need to bounce back from this and keep moving forward."

Jaclyn Clark also had 9 kills for the hosts and Jacquie Brice added 30 assists. Arianna Cruz recorded two service aces and 8 digs for the Gators (11-13, 6-10 CCAA).


Sonoma State took a 13-3 lead in the first set capped by a Madelyn Densberger. Jessica Nicerio's service ace cut the deficit to 19-15.

After a Seawolf timeout, the visitors scored six of the final seven points to take a 1-0 set lead with the 25-17 win.

The second set was as different story as it was even at 7-7. The Seawolves scored seven of the next 9 points to take a 14-9 lead, but the Gators scored 6 of the next 7 points to take a 15-14 lead.

A kill by Wright increased the hosts' lead to 18-15, but the Seawolves did not wilt as they tied the set at 19-19 on a kill by Ashley Robinson.

SF State came right back and tied the set at 24-24 on a service ace by Arianna Cruz. The set was tied at 26-26, when Sonoma State took advantage of two Gator hitting errors to take the set 28-26. With the win, the visitors took a 2-0 advantage in the match.

An attack error by Sonoma State gave the Gators a 6-3 lead in the third set, but the Seawolves scored five of the next six points to take an 8-7 lead.

They increased their lead to 13-8, but the Gators cut the lead to 13-10.

A service ace by Devin Shaver gave the visitors a 18-14 lead.

SF State did not give in as the Gators cut the deficit to 21-19 on a kill by Kaileen Mejia.

Sonoma State finished out the match scoring four of the final five points including the match point on a Hull kill, 25-20.

The Gators will begin a four-match road trip this weekend starting with a 7pm match in Turlock, Calif., against Cal State Stanislaus. The Gators defeated the Warriors earlier this season in San Francisco in four sets on October 5. Cal State Stanislaus lost in three sets to Chico State at home.
