Box Score SAN FRANCISCO---- The SF State Gators advanced to the CCAA Semifinals with a 57-47 win over the visiting Cal State L.A. Golden Eagles (16-11).
Winston Demmin led the way for Gators with a game high 17 points. SF State (16-11) held the Golden Eagles to just 28% shooting from the field including just 5% from three-point land. The Gators will face #5 Cal Poly Pomona in Ontario, Calif., at the Citizens Business Bank Arena this Friday, March 8 at 5:30pm.
“We played amazing transition defense this evening,” said SF State head coach
Paul Trevor. “Our guys did a nice job great executing the game plan and hit big some big shots. Our crowd was amazing this evening.”
James Albright chipped in 12 points for the Gators while
Brandon Tatum added 10 points.
Cal State L.A. was led by James Tillman with 16 points.
The first half saw the Gators build a 19-10 lead at the 7:25 mark on a
Decensae White lay-up. The visitors ended the half on a 9-3 run to cut the Gator lead to 22-18 at the half.
In the second half, the Gators increased their lead to 40-32 on a
James Albright three with 8:42 to go in the game.
SF State built a 55-41 lead on another three with just 1:06 left in the game and cruised to the 57-47 victory in front of a packed house at The Swamp.
The CCAA Conference Championship will see the Gators face-off against #5 Cal Poly Pomona in the first semi-final game on Friday at 5:30pm. Chico State will take on Cal State San Bernardino at 8pm in the second semi-final game. The championship game is set for 7:30pm this Saturday, March 10.
