Box Score SAN FRANCISCO-- The visiting UC San Diego Tritons snapped the SF State Gators' home winning streak at seven with a 62-54 win at The Swamp in San Francisco. Megan Perry paced the Tritons with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Katie Batlin led the way for the Gators with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
"Tough loss tonight for our team---defensively, I was satisfied with our effort," said SF State head coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace. "However, this was one of the worst shooting nights we have had this season." "We need to bounce back next week and play two inspired road games to end the first half of the season as there is plenty of basketball still left."
The Tritons (10-4, 7-3 CCAA) had four players score in double digits including Perry's 15 points. McKennan Bertsch added 15 points while Erin Dautremont also had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the visitors.
Besides Batlin's 16 points, the Gators also received a double-double from
Lauren Varney (11 points and 11 rebounds).
UC San Diego held the Gators to just 27% shooting from the field including just 17% from three-point land.
SF State (9-7, 5-5 CCAA) held the Tritons to just 39% shooting from the field and forced 21 turnovers but could not convert those missed Triton shots and turnovers into points.
The Tritons built a 25-11 lead in the first 11 minutes of the first half, but the Gators cut the deficit to 33-30 with just ten seconds in the half. Erin Dautremont's jumper gave the Tritons a 35-30 lead heading into the half.
The Gators outscored the Tritons 14-6 in the first eight minutes of the second half to take a 44-41 lead on a three by
Angela Van Sickel off an assist from
Brittaney Allison.
UC San Diego came right back and went on a 9-0 run to take a 50-44 lead on a trey by Perry.
SF State would not go away though as they cut the deficit to 53-51 with 4:17 left on a
Lauren Varney lay-up.
The Tritons outscored the Gators 9-3 in the final three minutes to secure the 62-54 win.
SF State will go back on the road for four straight games starting with this Friday, January 24 in Seaside, Calif., for a 5:30pm scheduled contest with Cal State Monterey Bay. The Gators are now tied for 7
th place with Chico State heading into the final week of the first half of the conference season.
