San Francisco – The SF State women's volleyball team fell to rival Sonoma State on the road Wednesday night, falling in four sets (17-25, 25-21, 15-25, 7-25) at the Wolves Den. The Gators (5-7/3-4 CCAA) were led by junior
Kaileen Mejia who had 11 kills.
SF State hit .113 on the evening, tallying 38 kills on 142 wings with 22 errors.
Bria Morgan and
Jaclyn Clark finished with nine and eight kills respectively.
Jacquie Brice finished the night with 30 assists, while
Jessica Nicerio finished with 14 digs.
Sonoma State (7-4/5-2 CCAA) hit .351 on the evening as was led by outside hitter Caylie Seitz who finished with a match-high 17 kills. The Seawolves took advantage in the opening set winning 25-17. Sonoma State hit .353 to begin the match, while the Gators hit .108.
In the second set the Gators came out hot going up big, at one point leading 21-14. The Seawolves responded cutting the Gators lead to three before Morgan recorded her eighth kill to take the match. From there it was all Sonoma State who won the third and fourth set to take the match.
The Gators return to action on Friday when they travel to Hayward, Calif. to take Cal State East Bay at 7 p.m.
