Turlock, Calif. – The SF State women's volleyball team defeated host Cal State Stanislaus in four sets (25-12, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20) Friday night at the Fitzpatrick Arena. The Gators were led by junior outside hitter
Jaclyn Clark who tied a career-high 19 kills on the evening.
The Gators (14-12/12-9 CCAA) got a career night out of a pair of players. Clark tallied a double-double on the evening, along with her 19 kills she also added 15 digs. Eleven of her 19 kill game in the third and fourth set. Freshman setter
Catherine Feathers had a big night, running the show for the Gators, tallying a career-high 36 assists.
Once again the Gators defense did their job,
Jessica Nicerio led SF State with 20 digs on the evening,
Arianna Cruz and
Krista Forte each chipped in 11. As a team, the Gators hit .207 while holding the Warriors (2-23/2-19 CCAA) to a .117 attack percentage.
Kaileen Mejia and
Jazmine Williams added nine and eight kills respectively.
The Gators came out on fire in the opening set. SF State led the set wire-to-wire and hit a match-high .308 while holding the Warriors to -.056 attack percentage. Five Gators recorded two kill each in a display of remarkable balance. A kill by
Jacquie Brice sealed the set 25-12 for SF State.
The Warriors evened the match at 1-1 heading into the intermission, taking the second set 25-23. CSUS jumped out to an early 5-2 lead. The Gators tied the set up and took a three point lead 11-8 before the Warriors rallied back again. The active set featured nine ties and four lead changes. The Warriors eventually took advantage late and won the set on back-to-back attack errors by the Gators.
The third and fourth set featured 12 ties but just two lead changes. The Gators took advantage of the Warriors hitting errors. CSUS hit .111 and .186 in the final two sets. On the strength of Clark's strong play the Gators also got five kills by
Bria Morgan in the final set.
SF State returns to action tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. when the Gators travel to Chico, Calif. to take on the Wildcats in the 2014 season finale.
