Box Score 2 Hayward – The SF State women's volleyball team dropped both matches of Saturday's double header at Pioneer Gymnasium. The Gators were swept by Cal Baptist 3-0 (21-25, 21-25, 24-26), to begin the afternoon, before losing a thrilling five-set match to host Cal State East Bay 3-2 (18-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 7-15). The Gators fall to 2-2 on the season.
Against Cal Baptist the difference in the day was errors. The Gators had 31 errors on the afternoon, 10 attack errors in the opening set alone.
Kaileen Mejia led the Gators attack with eight kills on 22 swings for a .273 attack percentage.
Jazmine Williams and
Jaclyn Clark both chipped in six kills.
Jacquie Brice finished with 28 assists while
Jessica Nicerio finished with 15 digs.
In the final match of the weekend the Gators were relentless. Forcing a fifth and final set after the Pioneers won the first two sets. Ultimately, the Gators ran out of steam as Cal State East Bay took the final set and the match 15-7.
SF State did most of their damage on the attack, recording 63 kills to the Pioneers 58. Four Gators recorded double-digits in kills led Mejia and Williams who each had 14. Joining them was Clark who added 13 and
Bria Morgan who recorded a career-best 10 kills as a Gator. Clark also recorded 14 digs for her first double-double of the season. Setter
Jacquie Brice recorded her first double-double of the year tallying a match-high 48 assists to go along with 12 digs.
The Gators look to get back to their winning ways on Tuesday, traveling to Fresno, Calif. to take on Fresno Pacific at 7:00 p.m.
