@SFState_WVB Begins Four Game Road Trip In Monterey Bay

SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State women's volleyball team begins a two-week, four-match road trip, starting Thursday when they head down the 101 to Seaside, Calif., to take on Cal State Monterey Bay.  The Gators will wrap up the week on Saturday traveling to Pomona, Calif., to take on host Cal Poly Pomona.  Both matches are slated for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
 
SF State (9-10/7-5 CCAA) enters this week in a three-way tie for fifth place in the CCAA standings.  Last week, the Gators split a two-game home stand defeating Humboldt State in three on Friday before falling to No. 25 Sonoma State in five sets, Saturday night.
 
As a team, the Gators are averaging 12.52 kills per set and hitting .175.  The 12.52 kills per set is currently eighth in the CCAA, while the .175 attack percentage is ninth.  Their opponents are averaging 12.54 kills per set while hitting .194. 
 
Leading the team in kills is senior outside hitter Jaclyn Clark.  Clark has 242 kills on the year, averaging 3.51 kills per set.  Clark continues her march to 1,000 career kills, following last week's performance, she now has 971 career kills. 
 
Cal State Monterey Bay enters Thursday's contest with a 4-13 overall record, which includes a 3-9 mark in the CCAA.  Over their last 10 matches they are 2-8 and have lost five-straight.  Last week they went 0-2 at home against UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino.
 
As a team, the Otters are averaging 11.8 kills per set and hitting .176, their opponents are averaging 13.4 kills per set and hitting .205.  Leading the team in kills is senior outside hitter Jessica Malcom.  Malcom has 242 kills on the year, averaging 3.72 kills per set.  Leading the team in assists is Leana Moleta who has 323 assists, averaging 5.67 assists per set. 
 
All-time the Gators are 8-6 against the Otters.  Last year, SF State and CSUMB split the season series with both teams winning the home contest.  The Gators defeated the Otters in five sets on November 7, 2014 in the last time these two teams squared off.
 
Cal Poly Pomona enters this week with an 11-9 overall record and a 7-5 mark in the CCAA.  They are currently tied for fifth in the CCAA with the Gators.  Over their last 10 matches, CPP boasts a 5-5 mark, but has lost three-straight.  Last week, the Broncos went 0-2 at home against Cal State San Bernardino and UC San Diego.
 
As a team, the Broncos average 12.73 kills per set and are hitting .173.  Their opponents are averaging 12.45 kills per set and hitting .192.  Leading the team in kills is Deanna Blain, who averages 3.11 kills per set and has 233 kills on the year. 
 
The Gators are 10-32 all-time against the Broncos.  Last year, the two squads split the season series with both home teams earning a win.  The last time these two teams faced each other, the Broncos defeated the Gators in straight-sets at Kellogg Gym on Nov. 1.
