Women's Volleyball SF State Sports Information

@SFState_WVB Wraps Up Four Game Road Trip At Seawolves and Lumberjacks

SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State women's volleyball team wraps up a two-week, four-match road trip this weekend when the Gators travel north to battle No. 22 Sonoma State on Friday and Humboldt State on Saturday.  Both matches will feature live stats and live video.

The Gators (10-11-/8-6 CCAA) are currently tied for fifth in the CCAA standings with Chico State.  After starting the year 0-4 the Gators have won six of their last 10 including three of their last five.  On the road the Gators 5-4.  Last week they went 1-1, defeating Cal State Monterey Bay in three sets before falling to Cal Poly Pomona in four.

As a team, SF State is averaging 12.6 kills per set, and hitting .176.  Their opponents are averaging 12.6 kills per set and hitting .193.  In the month of October the Gators have been relentless on the defensive side of the ball.  They have held their opponents to a .164 attack percentage and are averaging 17.6 digs per set and 1.84 blocks per set.  The 17.6 digs per set ranks 59th in the nation, out of 303 teams.

On the attack, the Gators are 13th in the nation in attacks per set, averaging 39.03 attacks per set.  The Gators have two players currently in the top-10 in the CCAA in kills per set, led by senior outside hitter Jaclyn Clark who averages 3.47 kills per set.  Junior outside hitter Taylor Brownlee forms the other part of that dynamic duo, averaging 3.25 kills per set.  Only UC San Diego has two players in the top-10 in kills per set.

For her career, Clark has 993 career kills, she is just seven shy from becoming the sixth player in SF State history to eclipse the 1,000 career kill plateau.  In doing so, she will become just the third play in SF State history to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.

Running the potent Gators attack is sophomore setter Catherine Feathers.  Feathers, has had a breakout season for SF State.  She is currently sixth in the CCAA with 617 assists and sixth in the conference in assists per set, averaging 8.81 assists per set.  She is currently second on the team with six double-doubles on the year, the most recent coming against Cal Poly where she tallied 44 assists and 11 digs.
 
Sonoma State enter this week riding a hot streak.  The 22nd ranked team in the country according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association has won a program-best 12-straight matches dating back to Sep. 19.  The Seawolves are currently 16-3 and are 12-1 in the CCAA.  Last week they defeated Cal State L.A. in four, before sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills at home.   At the Wolves Den, Sonoma State is a perfect 7-0.

As a team, they are averaging 13.93 kills per set and hitting .262.  Their opponents are averaging 11.94 kills per set and hitting .184.  Caylie Seitz leads the team in kills with 275.  Her sister Calan Seitz shares the setter load with Courtney Seda, both players are averaging better than 5.5 assists per set.

The last time these two teams squared off was at the Main Gym at the Don Nasser Family Plaza on Oct 17.  In that match, the Gators fell behind 2-0 at the break but rallied to force a fifth and final set.  The upset bid ended there as the Seawolves took the final set 15-11.

Humboldt State enters this week with an 8-10 mark and are currently 6-8 in the CCAA.  They have won two-straight but overall have lost six of their last 10 matches.  At the Lumberjack Arena they are 4-2.  Last week, the Jacks defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills in five.  They followed that up with a four-set victory over Cal State L.A.

As a team, they are averaging 12.4 kills preset and are hitting .178.  Their opponents average 12.3 kills per set and are hitting .191.  Symone Hayden leads the team with 257 kills on the year, she averages 3.57 kills per set.  Jessica Lammers leads the team with 359 assists on the year, averaging 4.99 assists per set.
