Midway through the first set, the Gators found themselves trailing 14-11. A series of kills by Brownlee, and an emphatic block by the outside hitter cut that lead to one, 15-14. Two service aces by Feathers, sandwiched a kill by Brownlee, gave the Gators a lead, 16-15. With the set knotted up at 16-all, the frame featured four more ties. The Golden Eagles eventually took a four lead and held it, taking the opening set 25-21.
In the second set the Gators jumped out to a 5-1 lead. The Golden Eagles went on a 10-4 run to take an 11-9 lead. The two sides tried to take advantage of the set as they battled to the tune of seven ties and four lead changes. Clark's hot play in the set proved to be the difference as her eight kills helped put the Gators ahead, eventually taking the set 25-18. The Gators hit .303 in the set meanwhile their defense held CSULA to a -.031 attack percentage.
To begin the third set, CSULA looked to retake the momentum from the first set, going up 5-2 early. After a Gator timeout, SF State went on an 8-2 run to take a 10-7 lead. The strong play continued by the Gators as they pushed their lead to six, 16-10, the Gators back row played exceptionally, extending long rallies allowing the Gators attack to take advantage. A kill by Brownlee gave the SF State the set, 25-21 taking a 2-1 advantage into the fourth.
In the fourth set the Gators could not be stopped. SF State recorded a match-high 19 kills on 39 swings with just two attack errors for a .436 attack percentage. However, the Gators could not run away with the set, as the Golden Eagles hit .306 themselves. Holding a six point lead, late, following a CSULA attack error, the Gators made it match point following a Clark kill, 24-17. Brownlee eventually put the set and the match away with her 21
st kill of the night on a ball smashed through the defense up the middle.
