@SFState_WVB Blasts Visiting Toros In Three Set Sweep

SAN FRANCISCO – The match took just one hour and 28 minutes and featured exactly one tie and one lead change, as the SF State women's volleyball team dominated Saturday's match from beginning to end in a three set sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday evening at the Main Gymnasium.

The Gators (6-8/4-3 CCAA) put the finishing touches on a promising week by leading almost from the start.  Cal State Dominguez Hills (5-12/3-6 CCAA) scored the first point of the match, from then on it was all SF State.

The Gators hit .244 on the night, but the difference was the relentless Gator defense that held the Toros to a .076 attack percentage including 24 attack errors, while tallying 10 total blocks.  Leading that impressive display of net defense was sophomore Christine Johnson who finished the night with nine total blocks.  She also added five kills with a service ace and three digs in an all-around sparkling performance.

On the attack, Jaclyn Clark absolutely dominated.  The senior outside hitter finished the night with her fifth double-double of the year, recording a match-high 16 kills on 38 swings for a .395 attack percentage, while tallying 15 digs.  Clark had just one attack error on the evening, which came midway through the third set.

Joining Clark in double figures in kills was Taylor Brownlee, who makes it six matches in a row in double-figures in kills.  She finished the night with 11 kills on 34 swings for a .235 attack percentage.  Samantha Krakower recorded six kills, while Chantelle Williams chipped in four.

In the first play of the match the Toros took the 1-0 lead on an attack error by the Gators.  From there it was all SF State.  The Gators went on a 6-0 run forcing an early timeout from the CSUDH bench.  The Gators pushed their lead to as much as 11, going up 18-7 following a kill by Krakower.  However, the tone was set early when Johnson and the front row defense combined for three-straight blocks for the ninth, 10th and 11th points of the set.  Clark finished off the frame with an emphatic kill down the line.

In the second set the Gators once again raced out to a comfortable lead, going up 5-1 following a kill by Clark. The Toros cut the Gator lead to four several times but was never able to get any closer as SF State took the second set 25-19.  The Gators finished that set recording 16 kills on 39 swings with just four errors for a .308 attack percentage, meanwhile, CSUDH hit just .211.

In the third and final set the Gators had too much momentum to be denied.  Once again the Gators took an early lead and their defense was relentless.  Cal State Dominguez Hills recorded just nine kills on the set but hit into 10 errors, meanwhile the Gators responded with 13 kills of their own, hitting. 250.  As she did in the previous two sets, Clark put the set and the match away with an kill through the Toro defense.

The Gators return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Hayward to take on Cal State East Bay at 7:00 p.m. at Pioneer Gymnasium.
