@SFState_WVB Makes It Three In A Row With Dominating Win

HAYWARD, Calif. – The SF State women's volleyball team has now won three-consecutive matches following Tuesday night's win over Cal State East Bay.  The Gators have won nine-straight sets after taking tonight's match 3-0, winning 25-21, 25-18, and 25-16 at Pioneer Gymnasium.

The Gators (7-8/5-3 CCAA) have not lost a set since the opening frame against Cal State L.A. last Friday.  Tonight they continued their impressive play, outhitting the Pioneers (3-13/1-7 CCAA) .218 to .123.  The Gators were the mark of consistency after the opening set, when they hit into eight attack errors, from the second set on the hit only seven more total.

"I'm really happy with our high love of play recently," said head coach Jill Muhe.  "Winning in three is really tough, especially on the road in this conference."

Taylor Brownlee helped the Gators get off to a fast start.  The junior outside hitter had 10 kills after the first two sets.  She finished the night with 13 kills in total, making it six consecutive matches with 10 or more kills.

Jaclyn Clark continued her trend of recording double-doubles.  She tallied her sixth of the year, throwing down a match-high 14 kills while grabbing a team-leading 17 digs.  Clark was on fire after the first set, she finished the evening with the 14 kills on just 30 swings with no attack errors for an outrageous .467 attack percentage.

Running the Gators attack was sophomore setter Catherine Feathers who tallied 31 assists with a match-high three service aces.  The Gators recorded six service aces on the evening.  Jessica Nicerio recorded 14 digs, while adding three assists and two aces.

In the opening set the Gators took the momentum early.  SF State raced out to a commanding lead, going up 17-4 before the Pioneers were forced to use a timeout.  Following the break CSUEB mounted a comeback cutting the Gators lead to three, 23-20 before SF State rallied to take the set 25-21.  The Gators hit a match-low .114 in that set, but still managed to hold the Pioneers to a .111 attack percentage.

In the second and third sets the Gators attack drastically improved.  SF State hit .297 and .263 respectively.  Meanwhile, the Gators defense limited the Pioneers to a .171 and .083 attack percentage.

In the third set the Pioneers looked poised to force a fourth set.  CSUEB had momentum out of the intermission and jumped out to an early 10-5 lead.  A quick timeout by the Gators allowed SF State to right the ship and go on a 9-3 run to take a 14-13 lead.  The Gators continued to apply pressure and held the Pioneers to just three more points as they took the set and the match 25-16.

The Gators return to action on Friday, October 9 when they travel to San Bernardino to take on No. 23 Cal State San Bernardino at Coussoulis Arena.
