SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State women's basketball team will make its 2015-16 home debut on Tuesday when they host Notre Dame de Namur at The Swamp at 5:30 p.m. The Gators will wrap up the week hosting Dominican on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Live Stats and video will be available for both games.
SF State (0-2) enters Tuesday's contest averaging 40.0 points per game and is shooting 20.6 percent from the field in the early going. Last weekend, SF State fell to host Central Washington 59-39 in their 2015-16 opener and finished the weekend in Ellensburg falling to Concordia (Ore.) 64-41.
From 3-point range the Gators have struggled early, connecting on just 9-of-50 attempts from beyond the arc. At the charity stripe however, SF State is connecting on 82.6 percent of their attempts, going 19-for-23. The 82 percent free throw percentage is currently tops in the CCAA.
Leading the team in scoring is senior forward
Naila Washington. Washington is averaging 15.5 points per game in the early going. Last weekend, she shot 52.4 percent from the floor going 11-for-21 including a 3-for-5 mark from 3-point range. Washington is second on the team averaging 8.5 rebounds per game. The 15.5 points per game is currently fourth in the CCAA.
Junior forward
Laura Lawson is second on the team in points per game, averaging 9.5. She has 20 rebounds on the year to lead the Gators, eight of them coming on offense. Freshman center
Kiara Ginwright is currently tops in the conference with five blocks. Against the Cavaliers on Saturday she recorded three blocks.
Notre Dame de Namur enters Tuesday's contest with an 0-2 mark after falling to Chico State 56-45 and Sonoma State 65-53 last weekend at the Coslet Classic CCAA/Pac West Challenge in Chico. As a team, the Argonauts are averaging 49.0 points per game, and are giving up 60.5 points per contest. As a team they are shooting 35.4 percent from the field going 35-for-99.
Leading the Argonauts in scoring is senior forward Liana Kirsten. Kirsten is averaging 10.0 points per game, while also leading the team in rebounds. Against the Wildcats she finished with eight points and six boards, she wrapped up the weekend scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Dominican enters this this week with a 1-1 record after splitting their opening weekend at the Conference Challenge Tournament hosted by Cal State East Bay in Hayward. The Penguins opened up the year with an 88-78 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday before falling to Cal State East Bay 68-58 on Saturday.
As a team, Dominican is averaging 73.0 points per game while their opponents are also averaging 73.0 points per contest. They are shooting 44.00 percent from the field, going 48-for-109. From 3-point range they are hitting 34.4 percent of their attempts on the young season.
Leading the team in scoring is junior guard Carly Holboke who is averaging 11.0 points per game coming off the bench for the Penguins. In 13 minutes against the Otters she scored eight point, against the Pioneers she finished with a team-high 14 points in 27 minutes of play.
