SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State women's basketball team road trip continues on Saturday, this time however, the Gators do not have far to travel.  They will make the short trip up 19th Avenue to take on Division I foe San Francisco at 2:00 p.m. at USF's War Memorial Gym.

The Gators (3-5) are 2-3 over their last five games, and have lost two-straight after falling to Humboldt State in Arcata on Saturday, 60-52. As a team, the Gators are averaging 54.6 points per game which is 13th in the CCAA, they are shooting 32.2 percent from the floor which is also 13th in the CCAA. 

Defensively, the Gators are stout.  SF State is third in the CCAA in defensive scoring, holding their opponents to 58.5 points per game, they are also limiting their opponents to a 37.1 percent shooting percentage which is second best in the CCAA.  Their 5.5 blocks per game which is tops in the conference and eighth best in the nation.

Offensively, the Gators have been a second half team.  After the intermission, the Gators are averaging 28.9 points per game and shooting 33 percent from the field, both numbers are improvements over their first half totals.  Meanwhile, their opponents are averaging 27.4 points per game and shooting 32 percent during that stretch of time. 

SF State has two players averaging better than 10 points per contest, junior forward Laura Lawson leads the team, averaging 12.1 points per game, second is senior forward Naila Washington who boasts 11.1 points per contest.  Last week at Humboldt State the two combined for 26 points and 20 rebounds.  Lawson recorded her fourth double-double of the year with a team-high 14 points and 16 boards.  Washington added 12 points, with four rebounds and four assists.

San Francisco enters this week with an 8-2 record, which includes six-straight wins following an overtime loss at the hands of Utah Valley on the road on Nov. 23.  Last week, the Dons took down San Jose State 82-78 before traveling to Long Beach to defeat Long Beach State 66-52.

As a team, USF is averaging 77.0 points per game and shooting 46.6 percent from the field.  Their opponents are averaging 66.7 points per contest and shooting 39.4 percent from the floor.  At the War Memorial Gym, the Dons are 3-1 this season.

Leading the team in scoring is senior forward Taylor Proctor.  Proctor is one of three Dons averaging double-figures, she boasts 23.9 points per game which is tops in the West Coast Conference.

Saturday's game will make just the 12th time these two teams play a regular season game.  All-time the Gators are 3-8 against the Dons.  The first time these two teams squared off was in the 1976-77 season when the Gators lost 48-40 in a tight contest.  The last time the Gators and Dons faced each other came in the 1999-00 season when USF won 77-40.  At War Memorial Gym the Gators are just 2-6.
