SAN FRANCISCO–   Calvin Nicholls secured the SF State Gators' 22-16 win over the visiting Menlo College Oaks this evening with a win by fall at 4:57 over Josh Sowman this evening in their regular season home finale dual of the 2014-15 season.  SF State ends the season with a 9-5 overall record in duals, the Gators most wins since the 2008-09 season (9-6).

Menlo, who is currently ranked seventh in the nation in NAIA, took the first bout by a 5-4 decision at 184 as Paul Bracamonte defeated the Gators' Johnny Costa (18-14).  SF State took a 6-3 lead as Gabe Fuentes (9-11) won by fall at 3:12 over the Oaks' Zac Grove at 197.  This was Fuentes' third win by fall this season.

Sam Alnassiri (18-12) increased the Gator lead to 9-3 when he defeated Scott Brasil by sudden victory (5-4).  The Oaks cut into SF State's lead with a 5-2 decision at 125 as Troy Lakin defeated the Gators' Brandon Vu (17-17) to make the score Gators' 9-6.

Jordan Gurrola (26-9) increased the Gator lead to 12-6 with a 8-3 decision at 133 over Menlo's Brian Ha.  The Oaks took the next two bouts by decisions at 141 and 149 to tie the score at 12-12.  Steele Escobedo won by a 6-1 decision over Jerry DeLaRosa (11-12) and Christian Franks won by an 8-3 decision over Dylan Furtado (16-10).

SF State reclaimed the lead (16-12) as Alex Abono won by a 10-1 major decision at 157 over Tyler Thomas.  Abono (12-12) is currently ranked seventh in the nation.  Menlo tied the dual at 16-16 when Eric Lopez won by 12-4 major decision over SF State's Vicente Aboytes (17-11).

That is when Nicholls (7-10) recorded his fourth win by fall at 4:57 over the Oaks' Josh Sowman to give the Gators the 22-16 victory.
