@SFState_MBB Stays Strong at Home With 65-56 Win over UCSD

SAN FRANCISCO –   The SF State Gators were victorious on "Gold Rush" this evening in front of a packed SF State's Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza.  The Gators defeated the visiting UC San Diego Tritons (12-9, 10-7 CCAA) 65-56 behind the trio of Andre Jones, Udun Osakue and Bren Haley.  The trio combined for 45 points, 20 rebounds, 8 assists and 8 steals in SF State's win.

With the win, the Gators are now 8-1 at home and improve to 9-12 overall and 7-10 in the CCAA. They are in a three-way tie for eighth place with Cal State L.A. and Cal State Monterey Bay, three games out of fourth place.

Andre Jones paced SF State with a career high 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the field while Bren Haley scored 10 points and dished out 7 assists.  Udun Osakue recorded his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds.  He also had five of the Gators' 11 steals.

Adam Klie paced the Tritons with 15 points and Drew Dyer added 10 points for the guests.

The first half went back and forth with no team leading by more than four points in the first 12 minutes of the game.  SF State led 17-13 with 8:15 left in the half, but the Tritons cut the Gator lead to 17-16 on an Adam Klie lay-up.

An Andre Jones three capped a 16-5 run by the Gators as they increased their lead to 33-21.  A three by Jeff Van Dyke cut the hosts' lead to 33-24 heading into the locker room at the half.

UC San Diego (12-9, 10-7 CCAA) cut the Gator lead to 36-31 early in the second half, but SF State once again built its lead back to double digits on a lay-up by Floyd Wormley to take a 42-31 lead with 14:15 on the clock.
SF State increased its lead to 53-37 seven minutes later.

The Tritons cut the lead to 59-49 with 90 seconds left, but the Gators went four-for-five from the line and took the 65-56 CCAA home victory.

SF State held the Tritons to just 37% shooting from the field including 25% from three's while the Gators forced 13 turnovers with 11 coming off of steals.

The Gators shot 46.7% from the field while going 18-for-24 from the line.

SF State will continue with its four-game home stand tomorrow evening at 7:30pm, when the Gators host Cal Poly Pomona in another CCAA game.  The Broncos defeated Sonoma State 62-51 this evening in Rohnert Park, to remain in second place in the conference.
