SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators lost a defensive battle with the visiting Cal Poly Pomona Broncos 64-57 in overtime this evening at the SF State's Main Gymnasium at the Don Nasser Family Plaza.
Udun Osakue paced the Gators with a game high 21 points on 8 of 16 shooting from the field including going 4 of 8 from three-point land.
The Gators lost for just the second time at home and fall to 9-13 overall and 7-13 in the CCAA. Besides Osakue's 21 points,
Derrick Brown chipped in 13 points off the bench for the hosts.
Cal Poly Pomona (18-5, 14-4 CCAA) was paced by Terrence Drisdom's 18 points. Drisdom was a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe including going four-for-four in the overtime. He was one of four Broncos to score in double figures.
Quentin Taylor's three gave Cal Poly Pomona, who moved into a tie for first place in the CCAA, an early 15-9 lead seven minutes into the game.
SF State went on an 11-3 run in the next six minutes capped by an
Udun Osakue old-fashioned three-point play. Osakue's dunk came off a steal and assist from
Bren Haley to give the Gators a 20-18 lead.
A jumper by Jordan Faison with 1:33 left in the half put the guests up 27-24 heading into the locker room at the half. Cal Poly Pomona continued its run early in the second half as the Broncos jumped out to a 31-25 lead in the first two minutes of the new stanza.
Jon McMurry's three cut the Broncos lead to 31-28 on the Gators' next possession. SF State outscored its guests 6-1 run in the next three minutes to take a 34-32 lead on a three by Osakue.
The game went back and forth with the Gators taking the 53-49 leads with just 1:45 on the clock in regulation on a three by
Derrick Brown.
Drisdom's lay-up capped a 4-0 run as the Broncos tied the game at 53-53 with 1:15 to go in the game.
SF State had a chance to take the lead on its next possession, but the Broncos blocked the three attempt.
The Gators' defense held though as the Broncos had three attempts to take the win in regulation but all three fell short.
In the overtime period, back to back jumpers by Barry Bell and Jordan Faison gave the visitors a 57-53 lead in the first two minutes.
Back to back buckets by Brown and Jones tied the game at 57-57 with 2:04 left in the extra period.
A three by Barry Bell on the Broncos' next possession gave them a 60-57 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. Drisdom went four-for-four in the final minutes of overtime to give Cal Poly Pomona the 64-57 win.
SF State will continue its four-game home stand next week with a pair of games on Friday and Saturday, February 20 and 21. On Friday night, the Gators will host Cal State Stanislaus. Then on Saturday night, the Chico State Wildcats will come to town for the Gators' home finale. Prior to the game on Saturday, SF State will recognize its seniors in

Bren Haley and
Udun Osakue. Tip-off for both nights is scheduled for 7:30pm PST.
