@SFState_MBB's Defense Stymies Warriors in 59-47 Win

SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State Gators improved to 9-2 at home with a 59-47 win over the visiting Cal State Stanislaus Warriors this evening at the Main Gym at the Don Nasser Family Plaza.  Andre Jones paced the hosts with 15 points, who stay in a hunt for a berth in the six-team CCAA Basketball Championships in two weeks in Stockton, Calif.

Besides Jones' 15 points, the Gators received double digit efforts from Udun Osakue with 12 points while Derrick Brown chipped in 10 points off the bench for SF State (10-13, 8-11 CCAA).

Cal State Stanislaus (14-10, 11-8 CCAA) was led by Chris Read's 14 points.  The Warriors are now in sixth place, while the Gators are in a three-way tie for seventh place with Cal State Monterey Bay and Sonoma State.

The Gators held the Warriors to just 37% shooting from the field including 28% from three-point land.  They also forced 12 turnovers including 8 on steals (three by Osakue). 

SF State had 17 assists this evening with 9 coming from Bren Haley, who now is 9th on the Gators' single season list in assists with 118.  Osakue and Sam Colmenero each had three assists apiece for SF State.

The Gators built a 13-4 lead in the first eight minutes of the game, but the Warriors outscoring their hosts 15-5 to take a 19-18 lead on a Christian Bayne three with just 80 seconds left in the first stanza. 

A lay-up by Brown as the buzzer sounded gave the Gators a 20-19 lead into the locker room.

The Warriors took an early 23-22 lead in the first two minutes of the second half, but SF State went on a 5-0 run to take a 27-23 lead and never looked back.

The Gators increased their lead to 46-34 on two free throws by Andre Jones with a little under eight minutes to go.

SF State increased its lead to 56-40 on a jumper by Colmenero and they held on for the 59-47 victory.

The Gators will return home for the final time of the regular season tomorrow evening as they host Chico State (18-6, 16-4 CCAA) in a conference game with a scheduled tip-off of 7:30pm PST.  The Wildcats defeated Sonoma State 80-43 in Rohnert Park this evening.  Prior to the game, the Gators will recognize their three seniors in Sam Colmenero, Bren Haley and Udun Osakue
