LOS ANGELES –   The SF State Gators men's basketball started their final road trip of the 2014-15 regular season with a 65-49 loss to Cal State L.A. this evening at the Eagles Nest on campus of Cal State L.A.  Nick Calcaterra led the way with 10 points off the bench for the visitors.

SF State (10-15, 8-13 CCAA) is now in a three-way tie for 8th place with Golden Eagles and Sonoma State, who lost 69-64 in overtime at Cal State Dominguez Hills this evening.  With the loss to Cal State L.A., the Gators split the season series with SF State.

Cal State L.A. scored the first 7 points of the game and increased its lead to 14-3 on a Joel Brokenbrough lay-up. Floyd Wormley's two made free throws capped an 8-0 run by the Gators as they cut their deficit to 14-11, but the Golden Eagles increased their lead to 30-16 with just 3:20 left in the first half.

SF State finished the half on a 6-0 run capped by a jumper by Jon McMurry to cut Cal State L.A.'s lead to 30-22 heading into the locker room at the half.

The Golden Eagles scored the first 11 points of the second half to take a 41-22 lead in the first three minutes of the new stanza. A made free throw by Udun Osakue snapped the Golden Eagle run and then a made tip-in by Justice Howard cut Cal State L.A.'s lead to 41-25.

The Golden Eagles increased their lead to 54-27 with a little less than nine minutes to go in the game. Back to back three-pointers by Calcaterra cut the hosts lead to 65-49 at the buzzer.

SF State out-rebounded Cal State L.A. 29-27 while the Gators were 14-for-16 from the line including AJ Kahlon going 4-for-4 and three other players going 2-for-2 in Wormley, Derrick Brown and Andre Jones.

The Gators will finish off their 2014-15 regular season tomorrow evening in Carson, Calif., for a 7:30pm scheduled tip-off with Cal State Dominguez Hills.  SF State defeated the Toros 66-60 in San Francisco behind McMurry's 16 points off the bench on January 23.
