SAN FRANCISCO– The SF State Gators women's soccer team went 2-0-1 this past week as they won two matches each by a 4-1 score and then played a scoreless tie at Stanislaus State. The Gators are now 4-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the CCAA. They will host Holy Names this Tuesday afternoon at 4pm in their final non-conference match and then travel to Seaside this Sunday for a 2pm conference match with Cal State Monterey Bay.
Last Tuesday at Dominican (Calif.), the Gators defeated the Penguins 4-1 with
Kelsey Wetzstein scored a goal and had an assist while
Danielle Vidal assisted on two of SF State's goals. Also scoring goals for the Gators were:
Isabella Nazario,
Autumn Fox and
Kayleen Belda while
Hanna Ghamari had SF State's other assist. All three goalies saw time in goal for the Gators in
Karin Nordin,
Arianna Wesley and
Alannah John.
Then on Friday evening in their conference opener in Turlock, the Gators played a scoreless double overtime draw with Stanislaus State. Nordin had four saves in goal in 90 minutes with Wesley seeing time in the net in the two overtime periods.
SF State came back on Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 win at Cal State East Bay. Nazario, Belda along with
Bianca Lowe and
Kimber Lohman scored for the victors with Fox and Vidal recording assists. Wesley had three saves in the first half while Nordin had one in the second half for SF State.
The Gators are averaging 1.66 goals a game while giving up 0.97 goals a game. Nordin has posted a 1.00 goals against average with 20 saves and one shutout in net with Wesley posting a 0.89 goals against average with three saves. Three players lead the team with their two goals each in Fox, Belda and Nazario. Vidal leads the way for SF State with her three assists. Four different Gators have recorded game-winning goals in Fox, Wezstein, Lowe and Hanna Mikles.
In the recent CCAA statistics that was released today, two Gators are in the top 10 in five categories. Vidal is tied for third in assists while Nordin is tied for third in wins, 7
th in goals against average, 8
th in saves percentage and 9
th in saves.
SF State will have its final non-conference match of the season this Tuesday afternoon at 4pm, when the Gators host Holy Names University at Cox Stadium. The Hawks are 2-1 after losing 1-0 to Humboldt State on September 13. They started their season with a 2-1 win at Cal State Monterey Bay and a 3-2 win over Northwest Nazarene.
Courtney Okazaki has scored two of the Hawks' goals including a game-winning goal with three other players scoring goals. Three different players have recorded assists for Holy Names. Tiana Miyashiro has posted a 1.25 goals against average with 18 saves in 287 minutes.
The Gators will return to CCAA action this Sunday afternoon at 2pm in Seaside as they will take on the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters (2-5-0, 0-2-0 CCAA). The Otters are coming a 0-2 weekend in which they lost 1-0 at Cal State East Bay and Stanislaus State. Their two wins are against Notre Dame de Namur (4-2) and Saint Martin's (2-1). They will host Fresno Pacific this Wednesday before facing the Gators on Sunday.
Kristen Womack leads the team with her five goals and 11 points while Sierra Townsend has scored two goals and Seana Saladrigas has their other goal. Regan Porteous has recorded three of the Otters' three assists with Kacy Falk with two. Victoria Whyte has posted a 1.71 goals against average with 24 saves in goal for the Otters.
After this weekend, the Gators will return for a two-game home stand on October 2 and 4. They will host Sonoma State at 12:30pm on Oct. 2 and Humboldt State on Oct. 4 at 11:30am.
