SAN FRANCISCO – The SF State volleyball team will make its 2015 home debut on Tuesday, when the Gators host Fresno Pacific at 5:00 p.m. at the Main Gymnasium at the Don Nasser Family Plaza. The Gators busy week will continue with matches against Holy Names and Dominican on Friday and Saturday.
The Gators (0-4) look to get into the win column after a tough draw at the Seaside Invitational hosted by Point Loma down in San Diego last weekend. After four matches, SF State is hitting .121 as a team, averaging 10.6 kills per set. Opponents are hitting .269 against the Gators and averaging 14.2 kills per set.
Leading the team on the attack is senior outside hitter
Jaclyn Clark. Clark has 30 kills on the year, averaging 2.31 kills per set. Newcomers
Taylor Brownlee and
Chantelle Williams are making an impact early. Brownlee has 28 kills on the year, while Williams has 26.
Sophomore setter
Catherine Feathers is off to a strong start running the Gators offense. Feathers averages 4.69 assists per set, while picking up 2.38 digs per set. She recorded her first career double-double on Friday against Regis, tallying 21 assists and 13 digs.
Fresno Pacific makes its 2015 debut on Tuesday. The Sunbirds were picked to finish eighth in the PacWest preseason coaches' poll. Last season, the Gators fell 3-1 to the Sunbirds in Fresno.
SF State returns to action later in the week when the Gators travel to Oakland, Calif., to take on Holy Names at 7:00 p.m. at Tobin Gymnasium. The Hawks enter this week with a 0-4 record after going winless in the Route 92 Showdown. As a team, the Hawks are averaging 9.29 kills per set and are hitting .066. Leading the team in kills is middle blocker Kaylyn Lackey, who has 31 kills on the year.
The Gators finish their busy week hosting Dominican at the friendly confines of the Don Nasser Family Plaza on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Dominican enters this weekend with a 2-2 record after earning wins over Cal State East Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills at the Route 92 Showdown. The Penguins are averaging 11.8 kills per set and are hitting .177 as a team.
