SAN FRANCISCO– The SF State Gators women's soccer team will have its 2015 home opener this Thursday, September 10 at 2pm when they host the Montana State-Billings at Cox Stadium. The Gators will also host the Concordia (Ore.) Cavaliers this Saturday, September 12 at noon.
SF State went 0-2 in its opening matches of the 2015 season. The Gators lost 2-1 last Saturday afternoon at Central Washington in Ellensburg, Wash.
Laura Shea put SF State on the board first in the tenth minute on a shot from 25 yards out to give the Gators the early lead. The Wildcats (2-1-0) scored two unanswered goals in the second half to take the non-conference win.
Karin Nordin had four saves in goal for the Gators. Then on Monday, the Gators lost 2-0 at Northwest Nazarene University even though they outshot the Crusaders 11-4 in shot on goal attempts. Nordin had two saves in goal for SF State.
The Gators' opponent on Thursday will be the Montana State-Billings Yellowjackets who come into the contest with a 1-0-1 record. Montana State-Billings lost to Carroll College 3-2 in overtime and tied 0-0 with the University of Mary in its opening matches of the season. Alycia Wright and Jessica Spang each have scored goals for the Yellowjackets while Spang and Elizabeth Howard each have assists. Lili Delgadiillo and Chloe Hopps each started the matches last weekend. Delgadillo has three saves and Hopps has one.
Concordia (Ore.) is 2-0 after defeating Northwest University (Wash.) 4-1 and Cal Baptist 2-1 last weekend. The Cavaliers are in their first year as a member of the NCAA Division II and are in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Karlie Hurley has two goals including a game-winner while four other Cavaliers have scored goals in Gabrielle Ewing, Sydney Van Steenberge, Martha Heaps and Shannon McMahon.
Olivia Brock has posted a 0.63 goals against average in two matches with five saves while Taylor Book has a 2.38 goals against average in one match in 37 minutes. Concordia will face Chico State in Chico State on Thursday evening before coming to San Francisco on Saturday.
After their match on Saturday, the Gators will travel to San Rafael on Tuesday, September 15 at 4pm for a non-conference match with Dominican University.
