SAN FRANCISCO – Dynamite play from freshman outside hitter
Chantelle Williams and the Gators deep bench proved to be too much as the SF State volleyball team defeated visiting Fresno Pacific in straight-sets. The Gators had six players record as kill as SF State defeated the Sunbirds 28-26, 25-21, 25-21.
Williams, followed up a strong performance against Point Loma and was electric in tonight's match against the Sunbirds (0-1). In the opening set, it was her three kills down the stretch that put the Gators (1-4) over the top to take the first frame 28-26. Later in the match her seven kills provided the difference as the Gators held off the Sunbirds for the sweep.
For the match, Williams tallied 10 kills on 21 swings for a .333 attack percentage.
Taylor Brownlee and
Christine Johnson both added eight kills each. Brownlee chipped in six digs and two blocks, while Johnson added three block assists.
Junior setter
Linda Aerne finished with a team-high 16 assists, while adding an ace and eight digs.
Catherine Feathers recorded 13 assists with nine digs. Libero
Jessica Nicerio recorded 14 digs with two assists and two service aces.
The Gators hit just .149 on the evening, but managed to outhit the Sunbirds in every set. Fresno Pacific hit just .094 on the evening, hitting into 28 attack errors.
SF State returns to action on Friday, when the Gators travel to Oakland, Calif. to take on Holy Names at 7:00 p.m. They will wrap up the week hosting Dominican at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at home.
