@SFState_WVB Falls In Three To Visiting CSULA

SAN FRANCISCO – The box score does not tell the whole story tonight, even though the San Francisco State women's volleyball team fell in straight-sets (17-25, 19-25, 22-25) to visiting Cal State L.A., the Gators played one of their best matches of the season.
 
SF State (1-12/0-5 CCAA) hit .237 on the evening, their best attack percentage in CCAA play, and third best mark of the year.  After an opening set in which the Gators hit nine errors, SF State cleaned up their attack and hit just six more.
 
Cal State L.A. (9-5/5-1 CCAA) was able to put the match away by hitting .356 on the evening, the Golden Eagles hit over .400 in the first and second sets. 
 
Defensively, the Gators front row players did an excellent job.  SF State tallied six total blocks with five players recording at least one block assists.

"I thought it was our best weekend of the year,' said head coach Matt Hoffman. "it doesn't always show up that way in the wins and losses column, but from a performance standpoint we are getting better. We worked hard this week at getting better at certain things and we carried that out this weekend, so we will get back to work on Monday to improve on some other things."
 
Facts And Figures
SF State hit .237 as a team, after hitting .156 in the opening set, the Gators hit .279 the rest of the way.  In the second set alone, the Gators hit .281, tallying 12 kills on 32 swings.
 
Leading The Attack
Junior outside hitter Christine Johnson threw down a match-high 12 kills on the evening.  She also hit an impressive .333 on the night.  Tonight was the eighth time this season she has recorded 10 or more kills and now has a team-high 125 kills on the year.
 
The Middles
Middle blockers Lauren Williams and Abby Griffith made a big impact on the match tonight.  Griffith smashed six kills on 10 swings with an error for a stellar .500 attack percentage, she also had a pair of blocks.  Williams joined the fun, recording four kills and 2.5 total blocks.
 
Next Time Out
The Gators return to action next Friday when they travel to La Jolla to take on UC San Diego at RIMAC Arena at 7:00 p.m.
