LA JOLLA, Calif. – The San Francisco State women's volleyball team battled hard, but ultimately could not come sustain a run to take a set, falling to host UC San Diego in 3-0 (18-25, 21-25, 19-25) Friday evening at RIMAC Arena.
SF State (1-13/0-6 CCAA) was a force at the net, tallying seven total blocks, a big reason for that was the strong play from sophomore Lauren Williams. Williams recorded six total blocks, three solo. She also finished the night with four kills.
Linda Aerne tallied 31 assists while grabbing four digs. Junior outside hitter Christine Johnson had a strong evening recording her first career double-double. She threw down 12 kills, hitting .250 while picking up 12 digs.
Haley Halpert recorded a match-high 14 kills, seven in the opening set. Emily Johns recorded 15 digs to lead the team. SF State hit .123 for the evening, attack errors were the difference, as SF State hit 23 on the evening.
UC San Diego (9-5/6-0 CCAA) remains perfect in CCAA play. They recorded 11 total blocks on the evening and hit .244. Six players recorded five or more kills for the Tritons, with three tallying eight on the evening.
SF State returns to action tomorrow night when they take on Cal State San Marcos at 7:00 p.m.
