ARCATA, Calif. – After the opening set, the San Francisco State women's volleyball team competed till the bitter end, holding leads late in the second and third set. Ultimately, host Humboldt State came away with the 3-0 win (17-25, 21-25, 23-25) Saturday night at Lumberjack Arena.
SF State (1-16/0-9 CCAA) came out slow, recording just six kill in the opening set. In the second and third set, the Gators did not make it easy on the Jacks (9-8/4-5 CCAA), recorded 26 kills in the final two frames.
For the second-straight match, the Gators employed the 6-2 offense with both
Malia Muin and
Linda Aerne having a solid night running the Gator's attack. Muin was an assist shy of a double-double, recording nine assists and 11 digs. Aerne tallied 18 assists and seven digs.
The Gators back row was active on Saturday night. Four players recorded double-figures in digs.
Jessica Stratton recorded a career-high 19 digs,
Danielle Ryan grabbed 12 with
Christine Johnson and Muin both tallying 11.
Johnson led the Gators with eight kills,
Haley Halpert had seven.
Lexi Chabiniak finished the night with five kills on 18 swings with one error.
Abby Griffith finished the night with four kills, three service aces and three total blocks.
The Gators will return to action on Tuesday when they host Chico State at 7:00 p.m. at the Swamp.
