TURLOCK, Calif. – The San Francisco State women's volleyball team's woes on the road continued on Saturday night. The Gators fell to host Stanislaus State in straight-sets 18-25, 20-25, 17-25 at Ed & Bertha Fitzpatrick Arena.
SF State (1-21/0-14 CCAA) tallied 23 kills on the evening, on 98 attempts with 16 errors for a .071 attack percentage. The 23 kills were tied for the second lowest of the season for the Gators. The Warriors (10-13/7-7 CCAA) recorded 46 kills on the evening and hit .291.
Stanislaus State's attack proved to be the difference on the night. The two sides were even statistically across the board, in aces, digs and blocks. SF State was led by
Christine Johnson who had seven kills. The Warriors were led by Blair Ehrlich's match-high 16 kills.
In the opening frame the Gators' attack came out slow, tallying one early kill. They trailed 12-5 before going on a 7-1 run, to cut the Warriors lead to one, 13-12, forcing the Warriors to burn a timeout. Out of the break, the Warriors went on a big run, taking the second set 25-18. Stanislaus State powered their way to an opening set victory by hitting .366, recording 18 kills on 41 swings with only three errors.
In the second set the Gators battled back and forth with the Warriors. The two sides settled on a 10-10 tie before the Warriors went on a 10-4 run and took a 20-14 lead. The Gators rallied back and cut the deficit to two, before falling 25-20 in the second.
In the third and final frame,
Lexi Chabiniak smashed a kill to cut the Gator's deficit to two, 7-5. From there, the Warriors went on an 8-2 run to take a 15-7 lead and never looked back, taking the third set 25-17.
SF State will return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Rohnert Park to take on rival Sonoma State at 7:00 p.m. at the Wolves Den.
