ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The San Francisco State women's volleyball team could not pull the upset on a red-hot Sonoma State, as they fell in straight-sets 10-25, 14-25, 16-25, Wednesday evening at The Wolves' Den.
SF State (1-22/0-15 CCAA) could not manage more than six kills in any of the three sets, and finished the evening with 18 kills on 80 swings with 14 errors for a .050 attack percentage. Sonoma State (13-9/11-4 CCAA) has now won seven in a row, they recorded 42 kills on 90 swings with 14 errors for a .311 attack percentage.
Freshman
Danielle Ryan led the Gators, recording six kills, hitting a team-leading .294, she also tallied seven digs and recorded two block assists. The Seawolves were led by Calan Seitz who recorded a match-high 11 kills on 17 swings with no errors for a .647 attack percentage.
In the opening set, Sonoma State jumped out to a 4-0 lead, forcing the Gators to burn an early timeout. The Seawolves never looked back taking the first set 25-10. The Gators recorded six kills in the opening set on 28 swings with five errors for a .036 attack percentage.
The second set proved to be similar as the first set, with the Seawolves jumping out to a big lead early and holding onto it. In the third and final set, SF State was tied with the Seawolves 7-7 before the host team went on a 10-3 run to take a commanding lead.
SF State will return to action on Friday when they host Humboldt State in the 2016 home finale. The Gators will honor three outstanding student-athletes in a pre-game ceremony. The match is slated for a 7:00 p.m. first serve.
