SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Against the top ranked team in the CCAA Southern Division and the 14
th ranked team in the nation, the SF State women's volleyball team had their hands full. The Gators battled hard in the opening set, but ultimately could not pull off the upset, falling in straight-sets (21-25, 11-25, 18-25) at the Coussoulis Arena on Saturday night.
SF State (1-25/0-18 CCAA) hit .233 on the day, the fourth highest attack percentage of the year. SF State finished the night with 32 kills on 11 errors on 90 swings. For the year, SF State hit .123, averaging 9.75 kills per set.
Leading the team in kills was
Christine Johnson with 10 kills on 27 swings for a .259 attack percentage.
Danielle Ryan finished the night with nine kills. Middles,
Lauren Williams and
Abby Griffith both tallied five kills on the evening.
Setter
Linda Aerne recorded 27 assists with six digs and a service ace in her final game as a Gator.
Emily Johns had a match-high 13 digs with five assists and an ace.
In the opening set, SF State battled the Coyotes (21-4/15-2 CCAA) hard. The Gators hit .310 in the set, finishing with 13 kills on 39 swings. CSUSB was just a little better, recording 20 kills on 39 swings for a .359 attack percentage. The second and third set proved to be one sided. The Coyotes hit .484 the rest of the way, tallying 36 kills on 64 swings with just five errors.
The match concludes the Gators 2016 season.
