ARCATA, Calif. – The No. 13-ranked San Francisco State men's basketball team capped off the regular season with an 88-74 victory at Humboldt State on Saturday night.
The win, combined with Sonoma State falling 55-51 at Cal Poly Pomona, give the Gators (23-4/16-4 CCAA) sole possession of second place in the CCAA.
Junior guard
Warren Jackson poured in a career-high 35 points with five three-pointers. The conference's second-leading scorer led all players with 13 points at the half and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line. After a Coley Aspay three-pointer kicked off the second half, Jackson followed with five consecutive points that transformed a five-point first-half lead into a 13-point lead. There was no doubt from that point and the Gators never surrendered their double-digit lead. SF State shot 50 percent from the field and used a balanced attack with 40 points in the paint and 19 second-chance points, and 30 points from behind the arc. The SF State bench also outscored Humboldt State's (13-15/7-13 CCAA) 45-25.
Redshirt sophomore
Ryne Williams added 13 points, two shy of his carer high, with three three-pointers as the Gators shot a 41.7 percent clip (10-of-24) from deep. Senior
AJ Kahlon turned in his seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Gators defense came up with a dozen steals led by four from Apsay, who leads the league with 2.5 steals per game and 68 total steals. SF State turned those into 24 points off of turnovers. SF State also limited trips to the free throw line, allowing just six total and none in the first half.
Tyler Green led the Jacks with 28 points. Colin Caslick added 15 points in the loss. Calvin Young II led all players with 11 rebounds.
