ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The San Francisco State women's volleyball team started the day on fire and finished the match that way, sweeping Holy Names in the Route 92 Showdown finale, winning 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-21), ending the opening weekend 3-1.
Holy Names (0-3) scored the first point of the match, from there it was all SF State (3-1) as they cruised to two huge wins in the first and second set. In the third and final frame, the Gators rallied from a 6-0 deficit to take the third frame 25-21.
As a team, SF State hit .333 on the match, hitting into just nine attack errors on the afternoon.
Brenna Dougherty was the lone Gator in double figures in kills, but she was hardly the only Gator getting in on the action. Eight players recorded at least one kill on the afternoon, with
Christine Johnson recording eight, while
Danielle Ryan and
Drew Morris chipped in seven each. Ryan provided a nice spark off the bench, tallying her seven kills in two sets.
Morris saw her double-double streak end at three, finishing with just the seven kills and four digs, however she did hit .538 on the afternoon and did not have an attack error on the day.
Cassandra Fong led SF State with 21 assists, she also had six digs.
Eden Fukushima recoded 10 assists on the day.
Jocelyn Rodriguez finished with a team-high 14 digs, she also had four assists.
The Gators will return to action next Thursday when they look to avenge their only loss to Biola when SF State hosts the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase. The Gators will host teams from the GNAC, PacWest and CCAA in a three-day tournament.
