MBB | Six-Game Winning Streak Snapped at Stan State

Short-handed Gators fall on the road

TURLOCK, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's basketball team saw its six-game win streak come to an end on Saturday in an 86-73 road loss at Stanislaus State.

The Gators (13-8/9-6 CCAA) picked a poor night to have their worst three-point shooting performance of the season. SF State made just two three-pointers in each half and finished the game 4-of-21 (19.0 percent). To add on to that, the Gators were without All-American and the team's second-leading scorer, Warren Jackson, and center Tyler Jackson (3.4 ppg, 3.9 rpg).

Evan Zeller led the Gators in scoring for the second time in as many games with his 20-point performance. In his first start since Dec. 29, Zeller went 8-for-18 with four assists and two steals. Brantley Bynum reached double digits for the fifth consecutive game with 15 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Ryne Williams added 14 points in the loss. Chiefy Ugbaja, who missed the previous two games due to injury, had eight points and four rebounds in his return.

Five Warriors reached double digits, led by 18 points apiece from Ty Davis and Kaelen Mitchell. Davis tallied a double-double with his game-leading 10 rebounds.

SF State used a 9-0 run to take a six-point lead in the first half and pushed the lead to 32-23 with Jase Wickliffe's layup with 5:46 to go in the first half. However, Stan State (13-7/8-6 CCAA) finihsed the half on a 12-5 run and cut the lead 41-39 at the break. Williams hit a three to begin the second half but a 17-2 Warriors run saw the Gators suddenly down by 10. Over the next five minutes, SF State climbed back into the game and pulled within two after a three-pointer and layup from Zeller. SF State still trailed by a bucket with five minutes to go but fell silent as Stan State finished the game on a 14-3 run.
