SAN FRANCISCO - In dominating fashion, the San Francisco State volleyball team cruised to a three-set victory over the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks on Friday night, 25-10, 25-19, 25-13.

It is the seventh sweep for SF State this season, which is the most since 2015. The victory matches the Golden Gator's CCAA win total from a year ago.

Notables
  • The Purple and Gold hit .330 in the contest, which is the third-best hitting performance this year and best since August 25 with they recorded a .370 percentage. Additionally, their five errors are the second-fewest committed this year.
  • Olivia Tabron led the way with nine kills, and Jessica Haynie followed with eight. Both Haynie and Marlena Billings hit .571.
  • Bailey Johnson had a strong night at the net, notching seven total blocks while also registering seven kills. Vanessa Ditz had 18 digs, and Payton Jensen logged 28 assists. 
  • The Jacks were limited to a .031 hitting percentage, the second-lowest mark allowed by SF State this season.

Set One

Tabron's booming kill to the feet of the Jack libero capped off a 4-0 start for SF State (9-7/4-5 CCAA) . A pair of blocks by Tabron and Johnson pushed it 12-3. SF State continued to roll as Maura Donovan dropped in an ace and Johnson followed with a solo block as the Gators lead by 12. Jensen recorded her first kill of the night off a dig by Morris, making it a 20-7. Billings and Tabron gave the hosts set point, and a Jack attack error sealed the 25-10 set one victory. The Gators hit a stellar .515 in that first frame and held Humboldt State (3-13/0-8 CCAA) to a mark of -.032. SF State also limited the visitors to just five kills. The ten points allowed is the second-fewest conceded this season in a set this campaign.

Set Two

Knotted 4-4, the Gators put together four-straight points that featured another big block by Johnson and Morris. Another Morris swing towards the back line followed by consecutive Johnson kills make it a six-point lead, and Morris then added her first ace of the contest which prompted a Jack timeout. Humboldt State battled back to cut it to five, but Billings recorded a kill that dropped right at the base of the net to end the run. Tabron and Johnson continued the block party with another big play at the net, pushing the advantage to 19-10. A kill by Humboldt's Emma Flewell brought the Jacks to within six, but another block by Tabron and Johnson switched the momentum. A  Humboldt State service error ended the frame in favor of the Gators, 25-19.

Set Three

Jensen notched an ace to cap off a 3-0 start to the third and final set. Johnson's sixth kill of the contest followed by another Jack attack error propelled SF State to a 10-5 lead, and Haynie followed with a swing from the sideline as the Gators went up 12-6. Following a Jack timeout, Billings had a big solo block to widen the lead. Johnson's kill towards he back line gave SF State match point, and Billings sent everyone home with her fourth swing of the match for the win.

Up Next

SF State hosts Sonoma State to wrap up the homestead tomorrow, October 6. The match starts at 7 p.m., and the first 250 fans in attendance will receive a free SF State drawstring backpack.
