Rucki and Kwong Named to First Team, Perez and Staab Named to Second Team

SAN RAMON, Calif. — San Francisco State women's soccer player Nicki Rucki has been named the 2018 CCAA Women's Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year. The sophomore was also named to the All-CCAA First Team along with fellow sophomore Tami Kwong. Marriah Perez and Janessa Staab were both named to the All-CCAA Second Team.

The 2018 Gators are 10-5-3 overall and are ranked No. 9 in the West Region for the second consecutive week. The Gators reached the CCAA Championships for the first time since 2010. As the No. 4 seed, they hosted the first round, where they bested Cal State San Marcos 3-2 in penalty kicks. San Francisco State heads to No. 10 UC San Diego for the CCAA Championships semifinals, where the two teams will meet on Friday, November 2 at 1:30 p.m.
  The award had already been voted on by the time the first round of the CCAA Championships were underway but Rucki proved her worth when she came up with save after save in a shootout versus Cal State San Marcos. Over 1,571 minutes, Rucki has started all but one match this season. She has logged nine shutouts and combined on another. The Martinez, California native has recorded 96 saves, allowed a .80 goals against average, and an .873 save percentage. Her 5.65 saves per game are third best in the CCAA.Rucki was named CCAA Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 17-23. She recorded a career-high 11 saves in a 0-0 draw at Cal State Monterey Bay on October 12.   After earning All-CCAA Honorable Mention as a freshman, Kwong suffered no sophomore slump and instead matched her output from a year ago. The Pleasanton, California native appeared in 15 matches with 14 starts and netted a team-high five goals with a pair of game-winners. The forward was named CCAA Player of the Week for October 15-21.   The senior midfielder had a pair of goals and a pair of assists for the Gators. The Bakersfield, California native has appeared in all 17 of the team's matches with 16 starts. Both of her goals were game-winners, in a victory on September 21 at Cal State San Bernardino and on September 30 at Cal State Dominguez Hills.   Staab started in 15 contests and was fourth among Gators field players with 1,321 minutes. The sophomore defender helped anchor a defense that recorded 10 shutouts.
