ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's basketball team used a strong defensive effort and never trailed in a 65-47 victory on Friday night versus Notre Dame de Namur in the opening game of the Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic hosted by Sonoma State.
- San Francisco State (3-0) never trailed in the game and led for 36:52.
- The Golden Gators dominated the glass 36-20, including 14 offensive boards. The Gators finished with 16 second-chance points.
- San Francisco State scored 25 points off of 19 NDNU turnovers.
- Chiefy Ugbaja led the Gators with 12 points in just 14 minutes. Brian Nebo added 10 points.
- Chaz Wade led NDNU (0-3) with 15 points. Ty Peacock added 10 in the loss.
San Francisco State jumped out to a 7-0 lead but the Argonauts answered to tie it 11-11 at the 10-minute mark. Back-to-back threes from
Jordan Balser and Nebo put the Gators back in front by six. A
Ryne Williams three-pointer made it a nine-point lead but the Argonauts used free throws and a three of their own to trim the lead to 28-23 at the half. The Gators forced 10 first-half turnovers that resulted in 10 points off of turnovers.
Two minutes into the second half, Williams put the Gators back up by nine with a second-chance layup. The Argos trimmed the lead with five straight points from Ty Peacock but Zane Paddon's three pushed the lead back to a three-possession ballgame. Balser's pair of free throws extended the lead to double digits at the 12-minute mark and the Argonauts would get no closer than five the rest of the way. The Gators offense rattled off 12 straight points and grew lead to 18, and the defense held the Argonauts scoreless for the final 1:49.
