LA JOLLA, Calif. - A late surge by the UC San Diego Tritons was not enough for the San Francisco State volleyball team on Friday night as the Golden Gators held on for the 3-1 victory, 25-22, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23.

- The victory is the first win for SF State (7-3/2-1 CCAA) over UC San Diego (4-4/0-2 CCAA) since 2015. The seven wins on the season is the best start for the Gators since 2012, when they reached the seven win plateau in nine games.
- Lauren Williams hit .389 in the contest, which was the best on the Purple and Gold on Friday (min. 15 attempts). She poured in nine kills and added four digs.
- Olivia Tabron (11), Drew Morris (ten), and Bailey Johnson (ten) led the way with double-digit kills.
- Payton Jensen added 44 assists, which is the third-most for the freshman this season. Vanessa Ditz notched a career-high 26 digs, while Maura Donovan and Jade Gillespie each recorded a season-high 12 digs.Â

Tied up 3-3, Tabron had a big swing off an assist by Jensen that sparked a 5-0 Gator run and prompted a Triton timeout. The host would narrow their deficit to two after a Kayla Evans service ace, however SF State pushed the lead back up to five at 13-8 which was highlighted by kills from Haynie and Tabron. The Purple and Gold continued to roll as they benefited from UC San Diego errors and back-to-back Morris swings that widened the advantage 20-13. Tabron sealed the 25-22 set one victory with another kill, this time off an assist from Ditz.
The Golden Gators continued the momentum in the second set to pull ahead 3-0, which started off with Williams' kill. Following an attack error that put SF State up 10-7, the hosts regained their composure to rally off four-straight and go up 11-10, and then regained a 16-15 advantage. Williams notched another kill to put SF State back up by one, and the Gators came up big down the stretch as Tabron and Morris had big swings at the net to give the Gators a 25-22 set two win.Â
The Tritons were able to tie things up 5-5 early on in the third, but Jessica Haynie regained the lead on a big swing down the sideline. Tied up 8-all, SF State rolled with another run, which featured a service ace by Brenna Dougherty for an 11-8 lead and another UC San Diego timeout. The Tritons came out of the break strong to take a 14-13 lead off a service ace by Cindy Tran, and then took a 18-14 lead on three-straight points as they tried to avoid the sweep. The Gators would cut their deficit to three, but the Tritons closed out the set with a swing by Molly Dalzeil to win the frame, 25-18.
William began the fourth set with another kill, and SF State climbed to a 5-3 lead. The back and forth continued as Tabron tied it up once again 11-11 with her ninth kill of the night. The hosts made it a 3-0 run to go up 15-12, and then widened that 20-15. Trailing 21-16, SF State bounced back to tie things up, with Tabron and Morris notching kills and Williams dropping in a service ace. A Triton ball handling error gave the Golden Gators a 23-22 lead, and Donovan got a service ace for match point. The hosts committed a ball handling error as SF State completed the fourth-set comeback win, 25-23.
