The Gators (8-7/3-5 CCAA) saw themselves down 5-2 early but bounced back to tie things up 6-6 after kills by Johnson and Haynie. A booming kill by Tabron put SF State up 9-8, and a kill by Jensen started a 4-0 Gator run, which ended with a Johnson kill towards the back line to push the lead to 15-11. The Pioneers (8-8/4-4 CCAA) called a timeout and cut it to one after the break, but the Gators went back up by four at 21-17 as Haynie and Tabron continued their strong play with more big swings at the net. SF State pulled ahead to reach set point, but East Bay rattled off six straight points to steal set one 26-24.
SF State pulled ahead 4-1 in the second with back-to-back service aces by Sophie Anderson, but the Pioneers strung together a 5-0 run to take the lead, 6-4. East Bay pushed their advantage to 9-5 following a pair of points by Kiki Leuteneker. Johnson ended the run with a big kill off the diving Pioneer outside hitter, and Haynie followed with another swing to make it a 9-6 contest. East Bay continued to roll with another 5-0 streak to go up 19-12. Trailing 24-14, Haynie kept the Purple and Gold alive with her sixth kill of the night off an assist from Jensen, but the Pioneers closed out the frame on a Gator miscue to go up 2-0 in the match.Â

Haynie opened up the third with three-straight aces as the Gators took a 3-0 lead. A solo block at the net off a big East Bay swing by Haynie tied it up 11-all. Another Tabron kill towards the back corner of the court and another ace by Haynie gave the hosts a 20-18 lead, and Morris recorded a kill a little later towards the back right corner that tied things up 22-all. Morris gave SF State set point with a drop kill behind the East Bay blockers, but the visitors prevailed once again with three straight points capped off by a Leuteneker ace to end the match.
