SB | Gators Down Argonauts for Twin Bill Sweep

SAN FRANCISCO -  The San Francisco State softball team defeated the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts on Tuesday in a pair of run-rule victories. Game one was a 9-0 five-inning walkout while game two lasted six in a 9-1 win.

By the Numbers

  • Vallejos stole three bases on the day to bring her total to a CCAA-leading 23 and went a combined 7-for-8 with five runs scored and six batted in. The CCAA Player of the Week now has 16 multi-hit games and batting a conference-best .491.
  • Michelle Castro and Samantha Alvarez each knocked in a pair of runs in game one. Castro added two more RBI in game two and added a stolen base.
  • Andrea Hildan went 2-for-2 with a run scored and one batted in and is second on the team with nine multi-hit contests.
  • Karla Soto and Samantha Gutierrez combined for just one hit allowed in game one.
  • The victories are the third straight for SF State (18-11) and their eighth in their last 11 games.
  • The sweep is their fifth doubleheader sweep of the season.

How They Scored
  • Vallejos led things off with a triple scored on Castro's sacrifice fly to put the Gators up 1-0.
  • In the third, Vallejos singled up the middle and stole second and third, and came around on Castro's base hit to right. Castro then promptly stole second and went to third on Nina Revoir's fly out to right. Next batter Katelyn Sturm blooped a single over the pitcher's head to score Castro and widen the lead to 3-0. Hayley Nunes ripped a single to center that moved Sturm to third. A four-pitch walk to Lehua DeLeon loaded the bases for Samantha Alvarez, who singled to right to score Sturm and Nunes and cap of the four-run inning. 
  • With two down in the fifth, DeLeon and Celeste Adriano walked and Kylee Brown singled to left to score DeLeon for the six-run advantage. Vallejos sealed the win with her fifth home run of the season as she knocked a three-run shot to deep center for the 9-0 win.

  • Soto threw four innings, striking out four and allowing just one hit. Gutierrez tossed one in relief.

How They Scored
  • Vallejos led of the game with a single right-center and the freshman stole second then went to third on Hildan's bunt single. Hildan stole second, and Castro scored the pair on a base hit to right. Castro went to second on an error, third on a stolen base, and came around on Sturm's single to right to make it 3-0.
  • The Argonauts (0-29) got on the board in the second on Rosie Delrosario's sacrifice fly to center. Natalie Minteer got Lauryn Zabat swinging to end the bases-loaded jam.
  • In the bottom half, Brown singled to left and Vallejos ripped a double to center to score Brown. Hildan followed with a double to left that brought Vallejos home and widen the lead to 5-1.
  • In the third, Nina Revoir led off with a walk and was replaced by pinch runner Marilena Torres, who stole second with one down. DeLeon reached on an error and went to second on the throw and Torres advanced to third, with Katie Rohrer walking to load the bases. Tianna Jacques went to first on catcher's interference to score Torres, and two batters later Vallejos plated DeLeon and pinch runner Jenee Wilson to make it an 8-1 lead.
  • Latrice Thompson got her first collegiate hit in the sixth as she blooped a base hit to left and she later scored the winning run as Rohrer reached on an error by the right fielder.

  • Minteer got her sixth start of the season, going five with two strikeouts. Sam Drucker got her first appearance of the season and struck out one in one inning of work.

SF State kicks off the Tournament of Champions this Friday as they take on Simon Fraser at 3 p.m. before going up against Concordia (Calif.) at 7 p.m. Live stats will be provided.
