LOS ANGELES — The No. 17 San Francisco State baseball team bounced back with a pair of one-run wins over Cal State LA, 4-3 and 5-4 in seven innings, on Saturday afternoon at Reedy Field.
- SF State lowered its team ERA to 3.88, second lowest in the CCAA behind No. 8 UC San Diego. Neither Gators starter allowed an earned run.
- Jack Harris went 3-for-7 with a home run, three runs, an RBI, and a stolen base. He was also hit by a pitch.
- SF State is now 6-3 in one-run ballgames this season.
- The Golden Gators turned a double play in each game. They've now turned 23 this season.
- With errors in each game, the Gators have committed at least one error in their last 12 games.
- The conference's top four teams all swept their Saturday doubleheaders.
GAME ONE
- Harris launched a solo shot to right center in the second inning, his second of the season.
- Jack Higgins was charged an error when he was unable to make the play on a sacrifice bunt in the fourth and that allowed a run to score. Higgins induced a double play and Jason Hare caught Jordan Myrow stealing to limit the damage.
- Harris began the seventh by reaching on an error and got to second base. He moved over on a Shaq Robinson sacrifice and Chris Smutny gave the Gators the lead back with an RBI double to left field. Hare followed with an RBI single to left to make it 3-1.
- Harley Lopez led off the eight with a double down the right field line, and scored two batters later on Riley Cleary's single back up the middle. The insurance run proved crucial when the Golden Eagles scored twice in the bottom of the inning off of Joshua Romero to pull to within a run.
- Higgins (4-0) went seven innings and didn't allow an earned run. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out three.
- Romero pitched two innings and picked up his fifth save despite allowing a couple of earned runs.
- Saxon Andross (3-3) also went seven innings. He surrendered three runs, two earned, and fanned seven. Angel Lerma allowed one run in the final two innings of work.
GAME TWO
- Jonah Gonazles led off game two with a walk and Lopez sent the second pitch he saw over the right center wall for a quick 2-0 Gators lead.
- Cal State LA got a run back in the fourth. The Golden Eagles opened the frame with back-to-back singles. An error allowed Spencer Sundahl to take third and he scored on Jordan Peabody's single up the middle.
- The Gators pieced togetehr a two-out rally in the fifth. With runners at second and third, Shaq Robinson cleared the bases with an RBI double to left. The Golden Eagles threatened in the bottom half of the inning with runners on the corners but Lopez started a 3-6-3 double play to end the inning.
- Brady Dorn led off the seventh with a double. Jackson Kritsch pinch ran and moved up 90 feet on a wild pitch, then scored on another wild pitch. The Golden Eagles pulled within a run with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the seventh but stranded a pair.
- Cleary (1-0) earned his first decision of the year. He allowed an unearned run on six hits over four and a third innings. He struck out three and walked one.
- Sebastian Selway pitched a scoreless inning and two thirds.
- Dylan Madole allowed three runs on three hits.
- Nick Moisant (2-4) took the loss in game two. The Golden Eagles starter allowed four runs on five hits. He issued three free passes and struck out a pair. Johnny Virgen pitched two innings of one-run ball but allowed the crucial insurance run.
