PITTSBURG, Kansas - A stellar Saturday helped the No. 5 San Francisco State women's track surged to a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The finish, as well as the 13 points scored, are both program bests.
Destiny Mack-Talalemotu, Alexis Henry, Timarya Baynard, Jazmine Smith and Monisha Lewis all were named All-Americans on Saturday, the most in Gator history
Mack-Talalemotu threw a 14.83m to secure a second-place finish in her flight. She followed with a new personal best and program record of 14.90m to secure that second place and then followed with another program record of 15.39m, becoming the only three competitors to eclipse that 15-meter mark in her flight. The mark lifted her to the finals, where she threw a 14.86m to begin the round and a 15.10m in her next attempt. The 15.39m was all she needed to secure the podium finish and grab All-America status for the second consecutive year.
Henry and Baynard earned All-America status in the 400m, with Henry taking home her first career indoor award and Baynard earning her second after grabbing Second Team honors in 2017. Bayard set a new program record with a time of 54.03 to place fourth while Henry surged late to win her heat and place fifth with a time of 54.22, a personal best.
Wrapping up the day was the 4x400 of Baynard, Henry, Smith and Lewis, who owned the top seed in the event, recorded a program-record time of 3:37.29 which earned them second place in the event and help lock down the tenth-place finish.
Devanique Brown began her day with a 9.26 in the 60m hurdles to earn 856 points and open up the pentathlon standings in 11th place. In high jump, she opened with 1.47m and easily cleared it on her first attempt. She then went onto clear the next three heights on her first attempt, tying a personal best of 1.56m. Unfortunately she narrowly missed securing a new PR of 1.59m, and took tenth in the event.
Brown began shot put with a throw of 11.93m, which immediately put her in second place and she maintained that position to earn 656 points and propelled herself to ninth in the pentathlon standings. In long jump, the senior placed 12th with a distance of 5.23m, which she recorded on her second attempt.
