TURLOCK, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team split its doubleheader on Saturday at Stanislaus State. The Gators dropped a 4-3 decision in game one but the offense roared to life in game two for a 10-2 win in seven innings.
- SF State is the No. 5 ranked team in the official NCAA Division II West Region poll. The Gators remain in third-place by a mere .003 percentage points over the host Warriors.
- The 10 runs scored in game two were the most in their last 10 games.
- An even more promising sign in game two was that nine different players recorded a hit. The 14 teams hits are tied for second-most this season.
- In game two, the Gators scored in every inning but the fifth.
- SF State has scored 10 or more runs five times this season.
- The Gators snapped a three-game losing streak with their win in game two.
- After dropping game one, the Gators dropped to 10-6 in one-run ballgames.
GAME ONE
- Errors continued to haunt the Gators in close ballgames. After the SF State defense turned a 5-4-3 double play, Gators starter Jordyn Eglite should have been out of the inning with a groundball. Instead, a Shaq Robinson fielding error allowed the runner at third to score for an early 1-0 Warriors lead.
- In the third, Jack Harris walked, Brady Dorn, reached on an error, and Trevor Rogers dow a four-pitch walk. Collin Gabel delivered a single through the right side and Harley Lopez sent a sac fly to right to put the Gators up 2-1.
- The Warriors tied the game in the eighth. Matt Elser led off with a double. pinch runner Michael Wyatt moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and beat the throw home on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt to tie it 2-2.
- SF State took he lead right back in the ninth. Shaq Robinson was hit by a pitch. With two outs, pinch runner Jonah Gonzales stole second, then third. Dorn singled through the left side to put the Gators back up 3-2.
- The Warriors answered in the bottom half of the ninth. Jack Large doubled and a Nathan Gutierrez RBI single down the left field line tied it at 3-3. Stan State then walked it off on Jayce Gardner's full-count, two-out single into the left field corner.
- Eglite was outstanding for the Gators but had nothing to show for it. The sophomore struck out a career-high eight over eight innings, the longest outing by an SF State starter this season. He threw 114 pitches and scattered six hits and two runs, just one earned, and walked just one.
- Freshman closer Dylan Madole (2-1) couldn't close it out. Instead, he gave up three hits in the ninth and took the loss.
- Tyler Murphy struck out six in seven innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits. Tommy Stropky allowed a run in an inning of work and Brandon Scott (5-2) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless ninth.
GAME TWO
- Collin Gabel gave SF State the early lead in the first inning. Jack Harris led off the game with a walk, Jackson Kritsch singled, and both advanced on a Dorn sac bunt. With both runners now in scoring position, Gabel singled through the left side to make it 2-0.
- The Warriors got a run back in the bottom half of the first with a two-out sac fly from Large.
- The Gators added two more runs in the second. Trevor Greenley led off with a double and later scored on a Harris double down the line. Two batters later, Dorn singled up the middle with two outs to bring Harris home.
- In the third, Jonah Gonzales, Jason Hare, and Greenley recorded consecutive singles to extend the lead to 5-1.
- Kritsch drew a leadoff walk to begin the fourth. After a pair of groundouts, Antone Self drew another walk and Gonzales and Hare recorded back-to-back RBI singles.
- After leaving a pair in the fifth, the Gators got back to work in the sixth. Self singled and advanced on a balk. Gonzales sacrified him to third and was safe on the play, then Self scored on Hare's RBI groundout. Gonzales came around to score on a two-out single to left from Chris Smutny.
- In the seventh, Kritsch singled and later scored on a fielding error.
- Riley Cleary hit a Warriors batter in the seventh, which set up an Alexis Paz RBI single.
- Riley Cleary (3-2) pitched the Gators' first complete game of the season. He scattered seven hits over seven innings. He struck out five.
- Rylan Tinsley (7-5) was rocked for five runs on eight hits in just two and a third innings. Nathan Gutierrez and Christopher Johnson each allowed a pair of runs and Evan Duran allowed an unearned run in an inning of relief.
