SB | Gators Top Warriors in Doubleheader Sweep

TURLOCK, California - The San Francisco State softball team downed host Stanislaus State in convincing fashion on Saturday, sweeping the Warriors in a doubleheader. Game one was a 6-3 win while game two was a 10-2, five inning victory.

By the Numbers

  • SF State (22-14/15-11 CCAA) has now won five straight against the Warriors (17-24/10-16 CCAA) in Turlock.
  • Hayley Nunes went 2-for-3 in game one with a pair batted in and added a hit in game two to extend her reach-base streak to 12 straight, one short of a tying a career high.
  • Nina Revoir tied a season high with three RBI in game one. Brylynn Vallejos went 3-for-4 for for her team-leading 18th multi-hit performance of the season. Michelle Castro added two more hits and two batted in.
  • Vallejos added another stolen base to reach 25 this season, which is the fourth-most all time in program history. The freshman, who went into today 23rd in the nation in batting average, raised her mark to .473.
  • SF State has 88 this season, which is also the fourth most in Gator history in a season. 
  • Karla Soto earned her tenth win of the season after tossing three innings in game two.
  • Sydney Jenkins gunned down two more would-be base stealers, brining her CCAA-leading total to 16.
  • The ten RBI in game two are the fourth most recorded this season.

How They Scored
  • SF State jumped head in the fourth as Castro reached on a fielder's choice and stole second before reaching third on a throwing error. She then scored on yet another throwing error for the first run after Revoir reached on a fielder's choice. Latrice Thompson replaced Revoir at first and she stole third. With two down, Nunes singled to left to plate Thompson. Lehua DeLeon reached on another throwing error that advanced Nunes to third. Pinch hitter Katie Rohrer ripped a single to left to score Nunes for the three-run frame.
  • Stanislaus State got on the board in the bottom half on Desiree Gonzalez's RBI single to left-center. 
  • Another three-run inning put SF State up 6-1. Triniti Scruggs beat out a bunt  and went to second on Castro's hit-by-pitch. Revoir doubled to left-center to score the pair, and she then came around two batters later on Nunes' base hit to left.
  • The Warriors cut it to four following Melissa Spencer's single to left that plated Kayla Fajardo.
  • The hosts added another in the seventh as Fajardo grounded out to DeLeon but scored Sylvester to make it 6-3.

  • Emily Mitchell tossed her 11th complete game, striking out two while allowing just three earned.

How They Scored
  • A seven-run first sealed the win for SF State. Vallejos led off with a bunt single and stole second. Hildan walked and Castro tripled to right for the first two runs. Katelyn Sturm beat out a bunt single to score Castro and went to second after Nunes grounded out to second. DeLeon also beat out a bunt as Sturm went to third, and Samantha Alvarez knocked a base hit to right to score Sturm for the 4-0 lead. Jenkins reached on an error that plated DeLeon and moved Alvarez to second, and the duo scored on Vallejos' triple to right to cap off the seven-run crooked inning.
  • Stanislaus State got on the board following a SF State throwing error to make it 7-1.
  • In the second, Revoir led off with a single to center and was replaced by pinch runner Thompson, who stole second and went to third on yet another Warrior throwing error. Sturm walked and stole second to bring up Nunes, who singled home Thompson and went to second on the throw. DeLeon hit a sacrifice fly to left to plate Sturm for a 9-1 advantage, and Alvarez reached on an error to score Nunes for the nine-run lead. 
  • The Warriors battled back in the fifth, but were only able to score Alexus Martinez as they fell victim to the run rule.

  • Soto go the start and went three with no earned and one hit. Samantha Drucker tossed two with a strikeout and one earned.
