SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco State has promoted
Brittany Cameron to head women's soccer coach, announced Director of Athletics
Stephanie Shrieve-Hawkins on Tuesday.
"The department is fortunate to have such depth of coaching talent in our programs. As a first-time head coach in NCAA soccer, Brittany will bring her prior coaching experiences and phenomenal playing history to this leadership position for the Gator women," said Shrieve-Hawkins. "She provides continuity to the program and I am excited to see her confidence as a leader in this new role. I am positive that she will hit the ground running successfully."
Cameron joined the San Francisco State women's soccer coaching staff in Spring 2018 ahead of the 2018 campaign, a season in which the Gators went 10-6-3 overall. The team made its first postseason appearance since 2010. The Gators earned the No. 4 seed in the CCAA Championships and beat Cal State San Marcos in penalty kicks to advance to the conference semifinals.
"I am so excited and appreciative of this tremendous opportunity to lead SF State," said Cameron. "I've learned so much under the guidance of
Stephanie Shrieve-Hawkins over the past year and I look forward to continuing the great work that we've started."
She spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons as an assistant and goalkeeping coach at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. She also coached goalkeepers at Niagara University in Lewiston, New York (2011); the Mustang Soccer Club in Danville, California (2010); University of San Diego (2009); and at Francis Parker High School in San Diego (2008).
In addition to her coaching duties, Cameron is also an experienced professional goalkeeper. She played professionally in Japan for four seasons with the Vegalta Sendai women, was in the United States Women's Senior National Pool (2012), and played in the Women's Professional Soccer league (WPS) and National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) for four seasons with Sky Blue FC.
Cameron is a graduate of the University of San Diego, where she earned her bachelor's degree in communication in 2008. The Dublin, California native was the 2008 West Coast Conference Defender of the Year and lettered four seasons for the Toreros.
