RORNERT PARK, Calif. – The San Francisco State volleyball team held on for the win in a five-set match at Sonoma State. The Gators won the first two sets 25-14 and 25-16 and lost the next two 24-26 and 20-25. They went into the final set determined and came out on top 15-11 to clinch the match victory.
- The Gators improve to 12-1 and 5-1 in the CCAA. The Seawolves fall to 6-7 and 4-2 in the CCAA.
- Izzy Issak had a match high 16 kills and 18 points. Jessica Haynie and Trinity Barr also had double digit kills with 13 and 12 respectively.
- The Gator's 12 service aces were the most this season and ranks sixth all-time in most in a match.
- Brianna DeBoer had 18 digs and also added three aces and an assist.
- Payton Jensen had 25 assists while Kimberly DeBoer finished with 23.
- The Gators held Sonoma State to a .101 hitting percentage.
Haynie's back-to-back service aces were part of a 4-0 run that gave the Gators an 11-7 lead and forced Sonoma to use a time out. Sonoma picked a point out the timeout, but the Gators went a 4-0 scoring run and never took their foot off the gas. The Gators earned 22 of their 25 points off of kills and service aces.
With a thin lead in the first part of the set, the Gators used an 8-2 scoring run to take a 21-13 lead and propel themselves to a set win. The Gators held the Seawolves to their lowest hitting percentage of the night at -.037
After scoring the first point, Sonoma State went on a 9-0 scoring run. The run was broken up when an attack went out of bonds. The Gators crawled their way back and tied it up with a block from Trinity Barr and Bekah Roth. SF State took the lead on the next set. Sonoma reclaimed it and won 26-24.
The Seawolves broke open a tight set when they registered seven unanswered points to take a 17-11 lead. The Gators never got closer than down by three the remainder of the set.
Sonoma opened the set with the first point. The Gators went on a 5-1 scoring run and held the led for the remainder of the final set. Haynie had her strongest set of the match and finished with five kills including the Gators last point of the match.
"Sometimes you've got to dig down deep and grind out a five set win on the road," said Head Coach Matt Hoffman. "Winning these games can help be a spark going forward. Hope we can take this into this week's practice and get ready for next weekend."
